Bourgogne Chardonnay

2006 Belland Roger Bourgogne Chardonnay

By on November 30, 2008 #asides

Opens with sweet, candied fruit aromas and almost a little baked apple. Generously fills your mouth with sweet, slightly baked fruit – nice but not really classic.

2006 Morey Pierre Bourgogne Chardonnay

High-toned aromas, quite intense, a little estery note somewhere, but overall fine depth. Quite rich, the acidity is just enough to balance, but the depth is superb for the appellation. Really fine.

Medium yellow. The nose shows faint bready notes over equally faint pear fruit. Quite full in the mouth, also quite dense. Whilst your mouth slowly waters after you swallow, it still seems to lack a little freshness. A reasonable finish, but just a little too clumsy and heavy…

2006 Seguin Manuel Bourgogne Chardonnay

By on June 30, 2008 #asides

Only grapes from the Côte de Beaune, a mix of Hautes Côtes and from the village of Meursault. A forward and

fresh nose of faint brioche and attractive fruit. The palate is fresh and smooth and has a nice extra push

of flavour in the mid-palate. A very good generic.

2006 Boisset Jean-Claude Bourgogne Chardonnay

10% new oak. A very high-toned, slightly floral nose – but focused. The palate is fresh, mineral and easy. Good and not to simple…

2006 Gambal Alex Bourgogne Chardonnay

Bottled in August. More concentrated on the nose, mainly showing some melon character. This medium bodied wine shows nice acidity and a good burst of concentration in the mid-palate. Only about 10% new oak, but you still get some of the flavour in the finish. Well made Bourgogne

2005 Jadot Louis Bourgogne Chardonnay

2002 was fantastic and 2004 was very good, so I bought a six-pack of 2005 blind! The nose is pretty classic for this bottling with faintly oaky, sweet depth, pear fruit and some higher tones – eventually a little minerality too in this vintage. This has a slightly different stance to the plusher 2002, it’s very well balanced but throughout the mid-palate and into the finish it’s rather more mineral with slowly lingering acidity. Less facile than the very user friendly 2002, I think this will also be rather long lived. Excellent

2005 Boisset Jean-Claude Bourgogne Chardonnay

This is a blend of of grapes from Ladoix and Puligny-Montrachet. The nose is deeper with a citrus-edged melon impression. The palate is wider and softer than the Hautes Côtes, good acidity too. Nice wine.
