Clos Frantin

2007 Clos Frantin Clos de Vougeot

By on March 31, 2009 #asides

An elegant, more red-shaded nose that’s rounded with a little wood-spice. Plenty of ripe tannin and a really impressive complex intensity in the mid-palate that today is coated with tannin. Lovely base material.

Medium-plus colour without the purple of the others. Some faint reduction slightly masks darker fruit. Wide on the palate with plenty of tannin – faintly reduced flavours here too. Nicely lingering flavour

2006 Clos Frantin Vosne-Romanée

Medium-plus colour. The nose is wide and typical with good fresh fruit. Some complexity and balanced tannins (that are much more sophisticated than the last wines) compliment good fruit. Always a dependable cuvée here.

Darker colour than the villages wine. Wide, high-toned and complex, but some estery dimension. Soft and ripe, filled with well-grained tannin, an extra dimension of flavour and a super finish. I find this very good

2006 Clos Frantin Echézeaux

Deep colour. Tight, a suggestion of depth but little more. Full-bodied, with good texture and very good fruit. There’s plenty of structure to resolve, but the finish lingers well and has a savoury edge.

A forward nose with a super mix of red and black fruit with an undertone of spice. Complex, well-textured with a very understated length. No fireworks today, but beautiful fruit.

An impressive, layered nose with hints of coffee. Full-packed palate with plenty of structure. There’s more here, both dimension and structure. It’s certainly a little austere, but it’s not that tough and it is very, very impressive.

Medium-plus colour. The nose is very fine; high-toned, linear with delicate red and black fruits. Executive packaging on the palate – good fruit, plenty of tannin, quite some extension into the finish – an almost haunting finish. Not even vaguely austere, just very, very classy. Bravo.

2005 Clos Frantin Chambertin

Medium-plus colour. The nose is impressive with mineral and faintly animale notes mingling with dark fruit – very complex. Concentrated fruit magnificently covers the tannin. Linear entry to the palate, only subltly widening into the mid-palate before impressively bursting into the multi-dimensional finish. Wow! And I thought the Clos de Vougeot was good – this is fantastic quality.
