Bonneau du Martray

2001 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne

The nose is wide and populated with seemingly ‘soft aromas’. Again, in the mouth there is width and certainly a softer packaging than the 2002 vintage. The acidity is the undercurrent that brings this together as a whole.

Beautiful, medium-plus colour. There’s a nice floral top-note – delicatesse with a hint of mineral. There’s plenty of slightly grainy tannin, excellent acidity – a beautifully fresh and very, very pretty wine.

There is a lovely, vibrant colour here. More depth and density than the ‘in progress’ 2009 – lovely precise red fruits. Wider and less plush than the 09 – good acidity and energy – I find this long and very understated. A good wine.

Very pale yellow colour. Perhaps it was a little cold, but this was very tight to start with. Eventually the nose starts to give up fresh apple fruit backed by cold (trifle) custard. In the mouth this is absolutely linear, firing into an understated but very long finish that has a little sweet vanilla attached. Only if you keep the wine in your mouth do you appreciate the weight of extract and feel the mid-palate intensity. This is a very tight but very good wine – to be honest I’m impressed, but I really expected to be ‘wowed’!

Medium, medium-plus colour. Understated, fine, relatively high-toned aromatics with powdery red fruits. Executively textured – it’s very silky – very good concentration. Topped by an understated but very lingering finish. Very good but the tariff is a little high.

Aromatically high-toned, wide and fine – very nice. Understated concentration and nice fruit with lots of fine tannin that slowly creeps up on you. Very good but too expensive.

Very pale. Well-integrated oak notes and plenty of depth on the clean nose. Soft, concentrated and with lovely depth. There are no fireworks but tons of restrained interest. Worth the price of entry…

Pale yellow. The nose is high-toned but is also coupled to an understated depth. Concentrated and ripe in the mouth, even hinting at minerality. Good integration and long finishing. Very good.

Medium golden. Hints of oxidation – though mild – concentrated, nice texture, more oxidatative notes but acceptable, good acidity and heavily corked…
