Why Big Red Diary?

2007 Terres d'Arômes, Volnay MitansApr. 2009
Aromatically broader and deeper. A clear extra mid-palate dimension, a reasonable amount of velvet tannin too. More depth and longer lasting in the finish. A good premier cru.
2006 de Montille, Volnay MitansApr. 2008
Medium colour. Red fruit dominates the nose – jam tarts. Good texture and plenty of tannin that’s balanced by the cream-edged fruit. The acidity helps to push the finish quite long. Very nice
1997 de Montille, Volnay MitansAug. 2007
Its a deep, young colour in the glass. Aromatically not much to say – very tight. The palate is far more expressive; lovely texture, fine tannins and understatedly long. The acidity is relaively low but there is also a good balance – I’d rather have this than ill-judged acidification. Good wine.
1999 Potel Nicolas, Volnay MitansNov. 2005
Medium-plus ruby-red with a cherry-red rim. The nose, despite starting in an understated way, still shows commendable depth and width. The fruit is red and black, quite dense but without any roast notes – slowly gives-up a more intense red-berry note. The palate is quite fresh, with really impressive intensity and length. The acidity is great and the tannins show quite a lot of grain. Very good length indeed. There’s a great future for this ebullient wine.
