Why Big Red Diary?

2006 Bize Simon, Savigny-lès-Beaune Les MarconnetsJan. 2011
Medium, medium-plus colour. Dark and slightly roasted fruit fruit impression. Very silky wine, perhaps tightening a little.
1997 Bize Simon, Savigny-lès-Beaune Les MarconnetsAug. 2007
(Magnum) Medium-plus colour. The nose is understated – actually quite tight. The palate is equally tight, the only forward aspect is the grainy astringency of the tannin, the fruit gives little away, though it’s ripe enough and shows no roast characteristics. In this format I wouldn’t be rushing to drink bottles, but I wouldn’t be searching them out either.
2005 Vougeraie, Savigny-lès-Beaune Les MarconnetsApr. 2007
Powdery red fruit – very 2005 with it’s ripe red aspect. It’s quite a narrow entry but this wine expands in the mouth in to the mid-palate. Just a little oak texture on the finish. Very good potential here.
2004 Vougeraie, Savigny-lès-Beaune Les MarconnetsApr. 2007
The nose is rather understated – just a twist of oak toast and again a hint of reduction. Just a little less ripe than the 05 version but well balanced with fresh acidity and nice finish.
