Why Big Red Diary?

2009 Bouton Gilles, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneApr. 2011
The nose shows complex if slightly dense aromas. Again there’s fine freshness for the vintage – length too. More mineral flavours slowly reveal themselves though to be honest it doesn’t seem such a big jump from the previous wines – it’s understatedly impressive length not-withstanding.
2009 Pernot Paul, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneJan. 2011
Here there is more depth to the aroma, a hint of SO2 distraction too. Again this is quite silky but in this case there is more power and width. Overall, just as long as the Folatières but more width.
2009 Boisset Jean-Claude, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneJan. 2011
The nose is fine and understated. A narrow entry that is reminiscent of the aligoté until it widens across the palate. Beautiful length – very, very pretty.
2007 Mischief and Mayhem, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneJul. 2009
Bottled February. Medium yellow. It’s a relatively tight nose that shows its 25% new oak much less than the villages wines did. A little fat, stones, nice acidity – the impression is that it starts rather narrow before broadening in the mid-palate, holding into the finish – faint grapefruit flavour. I like this.
2007 Bichot Albert, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneApr. 2009
Denser and more forward, yet the aromatics remain quite fine. There’s a little more fat and excellent balancing acidity. There’s a little mid-palate minerality and a narrow, slowly fading finish. Very good.
2007 Remoissenet Père et Fils, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneApr. 2009
High-toned complex aromas from the 07. Lovely mouthwatering acidity plays with savoury elements and intensity. Lingers beautifully – really super wine.
2006 Remoissenet Père et Fils, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneApr. 2009
The 2006 shows denser aromas of riper fruit and initially a little yeast. Despite the riper aromas this has a nice mineral spine and again very good balance. I’d happily drink both, but would buy the 07…
2006 Seguin Manuel, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneJul. 2008
A forward, slightly estery nose. Silky and slightly fat with a dense mineral expression – almost oily. Concentrated and lingers in an impressively complex way.
2004 Mischief and Mayhem, Puligny-Montrachet La GarenneJul. 2006
Ebullient, wide and interesting nose that’s wide in perspective and shows a hint of mint. It does, unfortunately, become a little more diffuse as it sits in the glass – I should have come back to it, as others that did this also tightened-up again. In the mouth I’m very impressed, concentrated, linear and very mineral – wow. Good acidity and long too, a sleek and super wine.
