2009 Gambal Alex, Chorey-lès-BeauneMar. 2011
A faint reduction on the nose. Supple with some fruit flavour leaching from the tannin. The fruit slowly, slowly begins to assert itself – far from facile – a good prospect in six months.
2008 Chapuis Maurice, Chorey-lès-BeauneOct. 2010
Blanc. Savoury aromas. Wide and mouth-filling. This seems quite full but without becoming heavy. Good length and a relative bargain.
2008 Meuneveaux, Chorey-lès-BeauneOct. 2010
The nose is pretty and high-toned. Soft, with a nice freshness and a sweet core of fruit.
2003 Château Chorey-les-Beaune - Germain, Chorey-lès-BeauneDec. 2009
Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose has a ripe, macerating acid-red cherry centre. The fruit flavour is a mix of darker cherry – shaded much more to black. Good acidity and with a rasp to the tannin. A very nice dimension of good fruit in the mid-palate and quite okay length. Many of the most successful 03s come from the less vaunted appellations – here’s a perfect example that shows better than Chorey from most other vintages.
2005 Tollot-Beaut, Chorey-lès-BeauneApr. 2008
Quite deeply coloured. The nose is deep, broad and significantly oaked – but it’s rather impressive and fun too relative to the price and appellation. Directly after the Voillot Rugiens there is similar density but nothing close to the clarity, focus or intensity – but then we’re at 40% of the sticker price. Fun and tasty, also very good value – just don’t line it up with anything too flashy.
2005 Thomas-Moillard, Chorey-lès-BeauneNov. 2007
Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose is rather mineral and high-toned coupled to faint cherry skins. There’s quite some structure here; furry tannin and plenty of acidity – but the balance is okay. Almost good.
2004 Drouhin Joseph, Chorey-lès-BeauneApr. 2007
Lovely high-toned pinot fragrance – this is super – slowly starts to develop a cranberry note. The palate shows sweet, slightly dense fruit, it’s got a nice minerality to it and more dimension of fruit on the palate than you expect from Chorey. The mildly grained tannin is well-hidden in the background. This is very, very good. The empty glass smells lovely too – hows that for value…
1999 Château Chorey-les-Beaune - Germain, Chorey-lès-BeauneNov. 2006
(First bottle corked) Medium-plus ruby-red colour. The nose is quite deep, dark coloured fruit with only a faint suggestion of jamminess. The palate is completely jam-free; still plenty of slightly astringent tannin, good acidity and a reasonable density of (still) one-dimensional fruit. A nice-enough wine that despite it’s lowly appellation is still very much a youngster.
