Why Big Red Diary?

2008 Château Chorey-les-Beaune - Germain, Beaune Vignes FranchesJul. 2010
Only in bottle for 1 week – it was the only one of the domaine’s wine that had a really extended malolactic fermentation. All the rest of the (red) cuvées had been bottled in March/April. Medium colour. Very high toned aromas, but perhaps that the recent bottling. Full, weighty and showing really good intensity – lovely precision and balance.

Medium, medium-plus colour. Perfumed! Super texture but clearly very tight. There is late developing intensity and eventually some good flavour too. Will be great!
2006 Latour Louis, Beaune Vignes FranchesJul. 2010
Medium, medium-pale colour. Pretty floral notes float over sweet red fruit. Quite a fat texture with a little velvet then a burst of flavour in the mid-palate. This is really very good.
2007 Potel Nicolas, Beaune Vignes FranchesJul. 2009
Darker, very pretty cherry over a little herb. A full and plump impression that is well balanced by good acidity. The understated tannin still finds an edge of astringency – there’s good dimension of flavour here.
1995 Château Chorey-les-Beaune - Germain, Beaune Vignes FranchesJan. 2003
Deeply coloured, just a little lighter at the rim – still looks quite young. Nose is really lovely; there is still some oak but this is fading, leaving sweet alcoholic redcurrant, and a spicy leathery component. The palate is explosively jammy but not a negative sense. The acidty creeps up leaving your mouth watering, waiting for the next sip. The tannin is almost gone, the only minor criticism is that the finish whilst long, is not so involving as the palate. Very good.
