alsace ausflug…

alsace ausflug…

The weather was set fair on Saturday – so it’s been too long that we were absent from Alsace. A little time in Colmar for tarte flambé was deemed appropriate, likewise cakes and Kugelhopf buying in Ribeauville. Our evening was set-fair with said (actually a little dry) salted-Kugelhopf, some chunks of sbrinz and something old […]

weekend corkscrew work – week 13 2018 – part 2

weekend corkscrew work – week 13 2018 – part 2

I think it’s important never to be under-wined. For that reason, given 7 of us, I thought 3 magnums plus two bottles should have been enough – but it seems we were a sober lot – one bottle of white was only half drunk – though it was anyway time for the reds – and […]

a little weekend snow and pasta…

a little weekend snow and pasta…

After publishing my February report, it was off to the Valais for a Friday on skis (Belalp) then Saturday, just a quick train ride away, in Domodossola (Italy) for a little market action, pasta buying and lunch. I’m ashamed to say that I missed the last 3 ski-seasons, and only hit the slopes right at […]

a walk around saint-véran today…

a walk around saint-véran today…

The morning was wet, but the afternoon was altogether better. We took in the north and the south of the appellation plus some lovely vantage points between the villages that make up Saint-Véran and the views toward Saint Amour and Juliénas…

a little swiss cow action!

a little swiss cow action!

In Switzerland, like everywhere else, what goes up, must come down – but particularly in Switzerland, because that also includes the cows! At the beginning of June the cows are walked up the hikers’ paths to the higher pastures of the Alps, and in September they are walked back down – before the weather changes. […]

the new restaurant in gevrey-chambertin…

New in Gevrey, the Table d’Hôte Lucie & Thomas Collomb – finally the building work is done at the Rôtisserie du Chambertin 🙂 www.rotisserie-chambertin.com Plenty of moody pics – fortunately I never found the service at all moody! I’m looking forward to (eventually) visiting here. Whilst I’ve always found plenty of people in their (superb!) […]

ta-da…..

ta-da…..

Ta-da! Back from 8 days on the island of Sicily. It’s relatively easy to summarise the time – lots of chilling despite 38°C – sometimes more. What we liked (usually a lot): The people The food The landscape The (nero d’avola) wine – €13-20 in a restaurant… Cefalu Siracusa – actually the ‘island’ of Ortigia […]

A little weekend wanderings on the Melchsee Frutt:

the beaujolais express…

New! London to Lyon – by Eurostar train – no sweat! Less than 5 hours – you can wait longer than that in the airport! There’s no excuse now for the London wine-trade 😉

good neighbours!

good neighbours!

I eventually moved apartment in Beaune today – it looks like I have good neighbours 🙂 Lots of memories of the old place – which I first visited in 2003 – but today starts a new chapter. Still a lot more painting to do though 🙁

snow – a ‘burns’ weekend in graubunden…

A bad Scottish accent was de-rigeur, fortunately a kilt, not! It was either this, or Mercurey… 🙂

out and about…

out and about…

Yesterday, given our altitude, some thing was missing – too many people for not enough piste! But today was lovely, if seemingly colder!   Enjoy your 31st December – I will!
