weekend wines – week 18 2018

2010 Louis Boillot, Les Trois Saints Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Fresh, very dry, tasty wine but lacking any great complexity – this was honestly a bit too young – positive for the eventual quality, but for drinking today their Limited Edition cuvée is the one to go for! Rebuy – Yes 2017 Jean Loron, […]

Le Poppy...

saturday afternoon on the hill of corton

The morning was wet – but about 2pm we had a weather window – so why not a couple of hours above Aloxe and Ladoix?

this week’s icymi…

What’s new in Beaujolais – well the Louis Latour thing is old news – here at least! I was actually the first journalist to taste the first vintage of that wine after bottling! Géraldine Godot at Domaine de l’Arlot – always worth your (my!) time… Lastly Christies and de Vogüé… Enjoy!

quiet apprehension!

I visited Chablis today – still 22°C but with a cooler wind. April almost brought a new record here – a daytime temperature of 31°C, but more impressive, one night of 20°C. But all change just now… Yesterday evening into this morning brought 2°C, and both Monday and Tuesday nights to come are forecast at […]

Bret's cuvée Japonais

my week (so far)…

This week is a great mix; yesterday les Aligoteurs were showing their wares in Flagey-Echézeaux – almost 50 domaines – I’m ashamed to say that I only tasted the wines of 27 domaines – but that was already nearly 4 hours and almost 80 wines worth – after which my palate said ‘STOP!’ Seemingly there […]

weekend wine – week 16 2018

A modest weekend as there was driving to be done. Another über-tasty Collet crémant followed by this little beauty: 2005 Cornu, Ladoix 1er Le Bois Roussot My last 05 Cornu, about a month ago was good but a little austere – this, however, is just fabulous. The nose is so silky and attractive – with […]

a little friday faiveley action…

a little friday faiveley action…

The new tasting area in Faiveley’s renovated Nuits cuverie is just one week into its new life. The cuverie covers numbers 38A and 38B in the street, but they call the place Number 38. it still smells of paint, but it’s still worth your time – it was definitely worth mine 😉

puligny-blagny-meursault-puligny – cross-country…

Looking down on Puligny from La Garenne I might have started at 5pm, the but the temperature was never lower than 26°C for my 7km of cross-country – I’ve not yet adjusted to the temperature – so it could have been easier! Starting at Hotel Le Montrachet, through the vines and up past Chevalier-Montrachet, through […]
