An enforced drinking holiday right now due to seasonal sniffles…

2007 L & A Lignier, Morey St.Denis Clos Les Sionnières
This is rather a meaty and powerful villages – for a 2007 anyway. Good, frank, red fruit aromas. On the palate it shows a nice acid balance plus good impact in the mid-palate. The tannins seem a hint rustic but that’s just part of the party. On day two the package is smoother if not quite meriting the label ‘refined’ – but who is searching for refinement in villages Morey? Day three a cold intervenes, but it seems smoother still.
Rebuy – Yes

Nice note Bill, reminds me I must try a wine from Kellen with my Morey affections. and her burgeoning reputation. Had hoped I migt have been able to call a la vendange but not to be.

Am ‘at one’ with you this week – been laid low in a debilitating way by some flu type lurgy which has quite put me off vinous tasting.

Madame de Morey has just remarked on ‘what a nice photo’ which has made me think are those really wine gum sweets or l’anglais jelly babies under the cork 🙂 ?

Shrugging off the lurgy, or trying to, (and feel free to move to a weekend tasting thread) from a recent auction purchase, Darviot-Perrin ’98 Meursault-Perrieres for me ce soir :- worrying gold colour but sniff and taste confirms no premox, rather nose bit hard to pin down, other than oaky, rich, onto palate which is minty, aniseed, very spicy, over rocky austere minerality – overall impression one of what must have been quite ripe fruit but maybe too much (new ?) oak; oily but riche, undeniably long finish but somewhat bitter and out of kilter. Fruit ‘battling’ the oak here and losing out ? Quite different from a Pierre Morey ’97 M-P last week which didn’t disappoint despite the vintage. Can’t complain too much for GBP £20.

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
