2006 Alain Jeanniard, Morey St.Denis Vieilles Vignes

I’ve not had many from this domaine which is sited just towards the top of the village on the (vineyard) road into Clos St.Denis, finally I picked up a couple of bottles.

2006 Alain Jeanniard, Morey St.Denis Vieilles Vignestry to find this wine...
Medium, medium-plus colour. Lovely depth and Morey character to the nose – nice red fruit with a real density to back it up – very nice indeed. On the tongue it seems not the ultimate in concentration, but there’s excellent darker fruit with that creamy old-vine impression. The acidity and tannin are slightly forward, but they only serve to cement the long mineral-infused finish – again with an impression of cream – excellent stuff, I’m looking forward to trying one of the domaine’s 1er crus.
Rebuy – Yes

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?

As a gross rule of thumb, how many bottles would you say it takes you to get a village character to be identifiable?

Josh – would depend on how strong the character is – but half a dozen or so should do it – assuming they all have it (the character) of course 😉

It’s one thing to open bottles side by side, it’s another to have something different in between and then recognise something in a later bottle.

The truth is we can very often open a bottle and think ‘ah.. Vosne’ or ‘ah.. Puligny’ – I certainly have that feeling now with decent villages Morey – but the reality is that blind, I may only be correct 10% of the time… Perhaps then, I’m only kidding myself…
      Cheers

Cool. As a budding burgundy buff, who started out with Cal cab, Napa is easy to identify. Burgundy I can’t really get any farther than, not Russian River, not Oregon, not Santa Rita, must be burg!
