des perdrix 2005 vosne-romanée

domaine des perdrix vosne romanée

My experience of this domaine rests only on a few mid-age bottles from the 97-98 era, and all were woodier than I liked. This wine shows a very different face…
2005 des Perdrix, Vosne-Romanée try to find this wine...
Deep colour. Initially diffuse aromatics hinted at a spicy depth but also showed a little mustiness, over about 1 hour there is more focus and clarity offering-up clean black fruit and some minerality. Mouth filling, concentrated, then bursts across the mid-palate with typical Vosne flavours if far from subtle, but to good effect. The tannins are quite well mannered and the finish lingers with an element of oak flavour – but it’s the only woody note. Fresh and tasty, and without overt oak character, but more obviously in need of cellar time than many.
Rebuy – Yes

My experience with them is limited to their Echezeaux from 1996, 1999 and 2002. All of which I thought were great wines offering a broad spectrum of taste and a superb value. It’s more of a rich, extracted style which showcases dark fruit but offers that focused tang in the middle. I thought the nose was reticent in all cases.

I’ll omit my de rigeur lamentations about price…

I opened a bottle of Vosne-Romanée 2005 (Domaine de la perdrix) tonight (19FE2009). I was deceived because the wine was by far too young ; it was very “closed” (we say “fermé” in french), but not as much as some 2005 Bordeaux wines I have tasted during the last few months, which are astonishingly concentrated and far from opened taste. It meens that the wine in this bottle was like ink, almost without any odor and with a strong concentrated undefined taste.

After 3 hours and a half, I could enjoy some subtle perfumes and some “finesse” out of my glass, the wine being freshly pourred from a very efficient strategically-shaped specialized carafe.

Nevertheless, I could say that this wine is promissing, but should not be opened before 2011. I payed 76 canadian dollars (76 $) for this bottle, and I am left with my complain about the rarity of pertinent information about the right time to open the bottles that are sold here and there…

Hope my comment will be usefull to somebody…
