niellon 2004 chassagne maltroie

2004 Michel Niellon, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Clos de la Maltroietry to find this wine...
niellon chassagne
Medium-pale yellow. The nose starts deep with plenty of fresh bread and sweet pear, slowly tightens and becomes higher toned. The palate is fat and full – almost grand cru ‘oily’ – with super acidity, and penetrating intensity that bursts with lime/citrus fruit. Considerable yet understated length that shows just a hint of cream. In one word; excellent.
Rebuy – Yes

Nice to see that nothing changes chez Niellon. Could have written almost precisely this note about the 1996 Maltroie upon release. Still have a few left and they are all still going strong despite the conventional wisdom that Niellon wines don’t age. That said, I still reckon that they are better in the “cooler” years. Did you buy bucketloads of this one, or was this just a taster?

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
