Juliette & Caroline on 2017:
“Honestly, it was like a the dream. After so many years with such small volumes – we even had a few grapes to sell. In fact it’s hard to describe the difference between a vintage like 2016 and 2017, it was like going from zero to 100 miles per hour – directly!
*We are really positive, because after all, we really have zero stock just now.”
Juliette & Caroline on 2016:
“We are very happy with the wines, but it was only half a harvest. After the frost our morale was gone, then we had to do so much work to fight the weeds – in the bad weather – but for no result – we were working only for the next vintage. In the end in a few places we managed to assemble 12hl/ha in others is was a really small amount of grapes – sometimes numbered in a few cases – a few were blended together to give enough volume to make one cuvée. The wines versus 2015 show a little more freshness.”
The wines…
A lovely blend of texture and fine fruit from the wines here in 2016, but fewer cuvées.
2016 Bourgogne Blanc
Vines near Bouze-les-Beaune 0.30 ha, used to sell these grapes but kept since 2015, recently bottled
Fresh, a little floral. Layered, delicious, easy wine, not the most concentrated but despite that a fine texture. Easy but absolutely delicious – yum.
2016 Savigny-lès-Beaune Blanc
Bottled just a little earlier than the bourgogne as the bourgogne took a little longer to ferment.
A little extra citrus freshness to the nose. A little more intensity here but still a relaxed texture. Lovely intensity in the mid-palate. I’d wait a year but lovely already…
Les Rouges…
2016 Bourgogne Rouge
A nice vibrant fruit nose – in bottle 1 month. Round, a very nice volume, good texture, tannin but modest and fine. Bright, a nice burst of finishing flavour.
A freshness of fruit and flowers, opening more and more. Hmm, lovely in the mouth, more width and sucrosity than the recently bottled bourgogne. Almost chewy density in the finish. Super villages!
The last two not yet bottled “Racked about 3 weeks and they are starting to become wines.”:
2016 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Le Clous
This has a lovely volume of aroma – floral with bright crunchy fruit. Extra volume and depth. Much more saline in character, slowly radiating waves of tasty fruit. Just very tasty but clearly still early in its elevage – to be bottled next year.
2016 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Aux Jarrons
Also a big burst of aroma, just like the Clous, a fine floral, violet note. A little extra concentration of red fruit here, slightly more padded fruit but of fine, almost raspberry style.
