Frédérick on 2013:
“We had only 35% of a normal crop in 2013, compared to 50% in 2014 and only 20% in 2012 – my father has never seen such low yields as 2012 (and he has seen a few vintages!) “

The ‘wines’…

The whites will be bottled in February, the reds in April, 2015. Unfortunately, Frédérick had another appointment – in Meursault – in theory only 30 minutes after I arrived for this appointment, so we speed tasted our way through the following:

2013 Bourgogne Passetoutgrains
Sweet, ripe, round and inviting. Lovely mouth-watering flavour.

2013 Bourgogne Pinot Noir
A beautiful red top-note on the nose. Intense, full of flavour – quite long too – a perfect BPN!
2013 Volnay
More precise and finer, less forward nose. Simply gorgeous acid-led flavour. More width in the finish too. Yum!

2013 Volnay Selectionées
A little more intense and wider, the same clarity. More intense in the mouth too, lithe but harder in the mid-palate . also gorgeous.

2013 Beaune 1er Clos des Aigrots
The nsoe starts tight but then vivid, beautiful red fruit shows itself. Very similar to the previous wines – this almost vibrates…

2013 Beaune Grèves
There was none of this in 2012 – yields were so small that it was blended with their Aigrots to make a 1er Cru cuvée.
A nose that’s hard to pin down. Fuller yet with similar intensity and here, just a little fat and a lot of concentration. Super long…!

2013 Volnay 1er Mitans
A modest but more complex nose. Lots of energy though less width of flavour. More direct and very long finishing.

2013 Volnay 1er Clos du Château des Ducs
A very discreet nose. More complexity in the mouth, more herb too. Very long after the mid-palate flavour peak…

2013 Volnay 1er Caillerets
Lightly spiced. Another very direct wine but with ‘to die for’ clarity in the mid-palate Gorgeous, crunchy fruit and energy. Perfect!
2013 Volnay 1er Clos des Chênes
Much more open and apparently complex aromas – super! Lots of intensity in a middle that’s faintly salted and mineral. The last notes, like those that went before, are simply super…

Les blancs…

2013 Aligoté d’Orée
A fine, almost salted nose. Refreshing and intense – fine aligoté.

2013 Meursault
A more discreet nose. Very fine energy and with insinuating flavour that slowly lingers. Super!

2013 Beaune 1er Clos des Aigrots
A very tight nose. Slightly finer acidity versus the Meursault and a little more sucrosité too. Another long-finishing wine, but not better than the Meursault, just a different character…

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
