Christine on 2013:
“2013s are lighter, earlier drinking wines here. The malos were quite fast and I was worried around March that the wines lost a little colour – but the wines seemed to recover, getting better and better after that…”

The wines…

Despite Christine mentioning that this was a lighter vintage chez DF, I found consistency versus other vintages and here is yet another address with brilliant Pommards – though I do usually find the Epenots very fine here.

2013 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Les Vergelesses
In tank, will stay there for about 1 month before January bottling.
High-toned red cherry fruit. Mouth-filling and with plenty of tannin and high-toned fruit that reflects the same on the nose.

2013 Aloxe-Corton
Pretty red fruit. A little more density versus the Savigny, and with finer tannin too. Lovely wide fruit. Not just denser, also tastier than the Savigny today…

2013 Pommard
A blend of two parcels, one of which was less badly hit by the hail.
Here is a very pretty, warm, ripe fruit nose. Lovely dimension of fruit flavour, complex too. Very nice!

2013 Volnay
A very small production in 2013.
Also a high-toned nose – almost volatile. Velvet tannin and very lovely detail with fine complexity. Very tasty.

2013 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Ile des Vergelesses
A modest but fresh, wide and pretty nose. Fuller in the mouth, concentrated and with very good flavour intensity. Plenty of material here – this is fine!
2013 Pommard 1er Les Epenots
Terrible yields in 13, yet still better than in 2014! “This a blend of 2 parcels; one from Grands Epenots and the other in Petits Epenots – officially, ‘Epenots’ alone doesn’t exist!”
A gorgeous nose that is detailed and floral. Direct, intense and primary – only in the mid-palate and finish does this wine open-out – and wide too. Another Epenots winner from DF…

2013 Corton-Perrières
Detailed dark fruits – discreet but very fine. Lithe and direct with growing intensity and complexity. Fine direct flavour of clarity in this finish – super!

2013 Corton-Bressandes
A deeper nose – and of texture too – ripe but inviting. Lovely bright, sweet fruit – perfectly balanced and with fine mid-palate complexity. Lovely…

2013 Corton Clos du Roi
Gorgeous, width and depth on this apparently textured, faintly floral nose. A little gas on the tongue but lithe, pretty and full of fresh, complex flavour of distinction, wrapped in a well-textured tannin sandwich. This will be excellent!

Les Blancs…
All the whites were bottled just before and after harvest.

2013 Pernand-Vergelesses Sous Frétile
Big, forward nose with lots of aromatic action. Round but with fine balance and a faint salinity too. Pretty flavours that linger well – I find plenty of weight here.

2013 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Clos Berthet
A finer nose with a little added herb – less weight but prettier. There’s a little extra sweetness and very fine acidity – much more mineral impression – complex and fine. Lovely!

2013 Corton-Charlemagne
Pretty much a ‘half-harvest’ as yields were down 50%.
Wide, fresh and faintly herbed. The aromatics start modestly and have a resemblance to the Berthet, only slowly growing but in the end, enough to overtake the Berthet. Full, silky and very concentrated, yet still mineral. Very long finishing. Excellent…
