Axelle on 2013:
“For us, a ‘normal year’ is some thing over 30 hl/ha; 2010 and 2012 were very low for us. 2013 was okay.”

The wines…

The malos are done and the racking will start in January – probably.

2013 Bourgogne
From Les Grands Challots in Nuits St.Georges.
Spicy and peppery aroma. In the mouth this is fresh and direct, slightly salty too. Very nice growth of flavour in the mid-palate and good finish.

2013 Nuits St.Georges Les Terrasses
The following 2 will be blended:
1. Rather reduced. Lovely in the mouth – fresh and vibrant. Lots of flavour again with a faint reduction. This should be excellent.
2. Similarly reduced. In the mouth a little wider and more intense – more structure too.

2013 Nuits St.Georges Les Vallerots
The vines almost 30 years old now.
There is both density of aroma and freshness. Fresh in the mouth with lovely intensity too – fine energy with the fruit. More direct than the Terrasses – a long line of flavour.

2013 Nuits St.Georges Hautes Pruliers
A fine depth of ripe but fresh dark-red fruit – lovely. Wide, with good energy, reasonable tannin and very good length.

2013 Nuits St.Georges Aux Allots
Next to Grandes Vignes.
Darker colour. Deep, fresh dark fruit – that still may be a little tight. Fuller, but concentrated too. The fresh fruit growing into the mid-palate with a slaty tang. This will be super!

2013 Vosne-Romanée
From 4 parcels of up to 40 year-old vines.
Here is a simply beautiful aromatic – open, detailed and faintly sweet and floral. Fine mid-palate density here, good fruit too. There’s a little tannin showing in the finish. Gorgeous nose, super wine

Plus a couple of cheeky 12s…

2012 Nuits St.Georges Les Terrasses de Vallerots
Only averaged 15 hl/ha in 2012!
Superb, open, almost black fruit and flowers. Concentrated, the fine flavours are a little narrower than the nose – but gorgeous all the same.

2012 Nuits St.Georges Aux Allots
Dark, concentrated and complex aromas. Likewise in the mouth. Here is a more masculine wine than the Terrasses but still with fine detail. Excellent line of flavour running deep into the finish.

If only I could combine the aroma of the Terrasses with the palate of the Allots – what a wine that would be!!!
