Michel on 2014:
“The volumes are ‘correct’, still below the levels of 2009, but I’m happy. There was, of-course some hail this year, but we lost only about 5%.

“We started on 17th September in the Chambolle-Musigny old-vines – they ripen first as there are less grapes. We finished in the Hautes Côtes. We bought some new vines in 2014 too, 0.34 hectares of Savigny villages – these vines are nicely exposed, but will need some work.

“I think that 2014 is a good vintage from sense of fruity tastiness, it’s a vintage of pleasure, and it sits well after 2013 as we need to wait for that – 2015 will be the same as 2013 too, in terms of needing patience.”

The wines…

2014 Bourgogne blanc
From above Chambolle, with barrel elevage but currently in tank waiting to be bottled.
Big bright aroma. Big and bright on the palate too. A finely intense mid-palate, then long finishing. Pretty good!

2014 Bourgogne Rosé
6-8 months elevage, regional grapes from the commune of Chambolle – a saigné from the bourgogne.
Fresh and bright, floral fruit, pretty red fruits. Tasty wine.

2014 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits
Bottled at the start of the year. From Concoeurs, more than 50 years old vines with a limestone soil. 12-14 month elevage in barrel. 15% new oak.
Dark fruit and a pleasing aromatic freshness. Round. Super-pinot fruit – yum! Tasty, but also serious wine. Excellent!

2014 Nuits St.Georges
From Les Charmois – 40-year-old vines in a slightly colder area. Bottled 3 weeks ago.
Deep, a silky nose that hints to reduction. More depth of flavour and flavour dimension – intense in mid-palate. The nose is a hint tight but lots and lots of finishing flavour dimension here.

2014 Savigny-lès-Beaune Dessus les Vermots
First vintage.
A silky nose, fine, more red fruited. More direct, more acidity. Plenty of dimension, plenty of flavour complexity – though the acidity is rather frank. Great finish though.

2014 Chambolle-Musigny
From about 8 different parcels – tomorrow it will be racked to tank for bottling in April. This represents about 1 hectare of vines.
Lovely deep nose. Dark fruit, forward acidity, almost a hint saline – direct dark fruit in the mid-palate and finish. Certainly a wine to wait for.

2014 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes
From Les Fremiers and 80-year-old vines. 0.70 hectares
Deeper colour. Dark nose, round, like the others silky. More energy, big wide, fresh in the mid-palate. Super depth of flavour, another wine to wait for, but really super…
2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Gruenchers
Younger vines and only 0.06 hectares.
A brighter, redder, more open nose, floral in aspect. Silky, a slightly richer texture, ooh – lovely mid-palate flavour, complex and open – super wine.., much more elegant than the VV today…

2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Les Groseilles
From 72-year-old vines.
A little oak spice, aromatically wider a the bottom. Big in the mouth, lots of complexity, lovely wide and involving flavour. Yum!

2013 Chambolle-Musigny
Deep colour. A rather tighter nose. Rolls beautifully over the palate, just a little rounder and redder than the 14, slowly fading, tasty wine… Yum!
