I’d arranged a visit here for a couple of friends who follow the work of Greg. I’ve already tasted the 14s before bottling, but thought it a good opportunity to inspect the massive reworking of the buildings to augment the new cuverie. I’m still ‘kindly requested’ not to provide photos or a commentary before it’s ready – but I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it’s ready in time for the 2016 harvest 😉

The wines…

Simply a first class selection – I would unhesitatingly recommend all these wines…

All the wines were bottled by the beginning of April – “I try to respect 2 winters in the cellar, so that’s about 19 months of elevage, except the bourgognes which are a little shorter.”

2014 Saint Veran La Côte Rotie
With a Meursault-style elevage; 30% new oak – no stainless-steel
Deep, vibrant nose, some oak, a sweet creaminess. Lush, but vibrant, super intensity – what a great wine. Fine length too.

2014 Marsannay
4k bottles made.
Again a vibrant nose, here less oak impression – a sweet lemon yellow note. Hmm, now I’m not the biggest fan of Marsannay Blanc but this is very silky, intense and even mineral – wow – here I’m converted!
2014 St.Aubin 1er Sur Gamay
One of the biggest St.Aubin 1ers, south exposed, like Remilly.
A fresh top note above concentrated citrus. Extra intensity and energy – super ebullient – long, long finishing. Simply gorgeous wine…
2914 Meursault 1er Charmes
“Usually Charmes is very big, but ours not, always more mineral” – from Charmes-Dessus.
This was only part-finished when last tasted, it’s now on another level! A more modest, but layered nose, quite pretty. Vibrant and intense, even bigger and slightly saline in the mid-palate – wow! These just keep getting better and better.
2014 Chambolle-Musigny
Lost a little yield to suzuki but preferred to wait for maturity. 50% whole cluster. 3 different parcels; Derrière Four, Clos de l’Orme and Pas de Chat.
Very nice colour. Ouf! I’m falling into this deep, floral fruity nose. Direct and fresh, vibrant, layers of intensity – bravo – long finishing. Just a gorgeous but direct wine.
2014 Vosne-Romanée Les Jacquines
Next to Clos des Reas – also 50% whole cluster
Deep, spicy and floral. Also very fresh, good energy, but gorgeous fruit in the mid palate and the finish. Again that word – vibrant.
2014 Clos de la Roche
Top, extreme south, near Clos St Denis, planted north to south.
Starts forward then brings more and more floral notes and very pretty focused berry notes. Large in scale, complex, dynamic gorgeous points of intensity in the mid-palate. You will find bigger, fatter wines, but here is fabulous focus and detail.
