Florence on 2022:
“It took a little elevage but finally, we have some freshness in the wines. The volume was good – we lost a little due to the summer dryness – especially in the cordon-trained aligoté.”
Florence on 2021:
“All our losses were down to the frost – nearly 80%. The maladies weren’t particularly strong here but, of course, there were very few grapes for them to work on! To start with, I thought the wines lacked a little depth but I’ve grown to really like them – it’s nice to have this freshness – particularly in the reds…”
The wines…
The whites were lovely – their Bourgogne Chardonnay Gryphée is worth a special search. The reds, more-or-less, all showed some gentian or faint pyrazine. If you’re insensitive to that pesky little chemical then you will find beautifully shaped and finely aromatic wines to enjoy!
2021 Bourgogne Aligoté Arenite
Hmm – there’s a little cushion to this pretty nose. Floral, beautifully shaped – long and quite wide finishing too. Easy but deliciously easy finishing – a simply lovely wine.
2021 Bourgogne Aligoté La Cabane
The cabane is a small building near these vines that was once used as a distillery here. It’s an old Parcel of vines but on granite soil, like the last.
More depth and quite vibrant aroma too. Broader, supple, some oak showing and certainly plenty of concentration – more finishing intensity – this is very lovely. I’d wait for the oak to fade – 3 or more years but this reminds me a little of Chevrot’s Tilleuils…
2021 Bourgogne Chardonnay Ostria
Chardonnay from 30-year-old vines.
Flowers and herbs in this width of aroma. Wide, more vibrant and more mineral – there’s more zip and intensity too in the middle and finishing flavours. A wine to wait for too – but there’s also an obvious note of oak for this one…
The most complete nose – not the largest but cushioned, mineral, structured but never too much. A little silken generosity to this wine – a wave of cushioned, delicious finishing flavour – quite wide too. That’s a beauty!
2021 L’integral Aligoté
A maceration of about 10 days – made for the first time in 2020
A depth of aroma here – almost a little reduction – Hmm- that’s quite concentrated and nicely silky.
Les rouges:
2021 Bourgogne Passetoutgrains La Chapelle
A co-plantation of gamay and pinot.
A little bit of gentian on the nose – but perfumed. Mouth-filling, a more rustic texture than the whites – faintly grained – quite tasty though with a hint of pyrazine.
2021 Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise Pinot Noir Ozanon
Named after their botanist ancestor who lived here at the Château
Plenty of gentian perfume again – but it’s not harsh – it really is perfume. Here the structure is less rustic, broad and faintly grained – still, the gentian is the major component. Not my favourite style…
2021 Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise Pinot Noir Hommage
An old parcel of pinot aged in barrel
A suggestion of reduction and plenty of red fruit – gentian? I’m not sure! The best texture so far – ultra-fine tannin… Fresh and direct flavour, yes some gentian finishing but properly perfumed wine – that’s very lovely!
2021 Fleurie Poncié
Yes a faint gentian again – but a more floral interpretation. Really fine in the mouth, wide, supple, silky – becoming more velvet with a hint of tannin. The finish is a wave of mouth-watering flavour. The second time I’ve tasted and this time I see the gentian – last time not – but it’s still a lovely wine!
