“Our 2020s are practically sold out. 2021 was half a harvest, it was mainly the mildew that was to blame. We triaged at the vines but it wasn’t hard – the grapes were either 100% bad or 100% good!”

2020 Beaujolais-Emeringes, La Croix
.70 ha – near Juliénas/Chénas – more granite rose here but still some clay that holds onto the rain for longer. This was partly hailed in June 2020 so it’s a low volume
A nice line of pretty red fruit freshness. Nice shape and texture too, slowly growing a small supporting grain of tannin. That’s a fine starting point.
2020 Beaujolais-Emeringes, Au Chânes
A warmer terrior, with more granite though still some clay. 50% barrel elevage for this one. The highest alcohol with 13.5° but harvested a week before the 12° of the last.
A wider, larger, nose that’s faintly cushioned. Round in the mouth a similar tannin to the last but more framing than supporting the flavours. The finish holds with more tenacity. Layered finishing. Very tasty…
2020 Beaujolais-Emeringes, Replat de Vaure
0.9 ha with plenty of clay in the soil here. Already bottled (just a few weeks) all whole cluster and it was sulfured once in the elevage and again before bottling but the team here are also experimenting with no sulfur.
A width, a smooth width, of aroma – almost a little floral. A finer tannin but with a little extra dryness. Wide flavour, juicy too. Tasty wine…
2020 Chénas Les Brureaux
0.46 Ha ‘Early harvesting but the grapes needed it – they were starting to shrink and shrivel.’
Fine slightly darker fruit – an airy yet still concentrated aromatic – super. Juicy, pure, lovely wine – there’s energy and purity here. Almost a 2019 style, perfumed with flowers and fruit in the finish. Excellent wine!
