Yes, you have met Claudie before, when not in her day-job as winemaker for Remoissenet. Regarding the domaine Claudie says that she had “Not too much to worry about in 2016 – we lost 20% due to frost, but in comparison to many domaines that was nothing to complain about.

2016 Rully La Chaume
Some fresh pinot aroma. Wide, nice texture – really mouth-filling. A bit of vanilla, but very tasty and quite long. Tasty wine.

2016 Bourgogne Milliane
70-year-old vines from around Pommard, like the last, bottled at the end of January.
A modest nose but with a fresh width. Deep, a hint of reduction, but then darker, soft, tasty flavours. Still quite easy though still very tasty. Longer finishing

2016 Pommard Les Vaumuriens
Bio, not filtered or fined, worked by horse.
More freshness of aroma. Layered impression over the palate with more depth of flavour – lovely complex and quite concentrated wine – excellent.

2016 Pommard 1er Les Charmots
Whole cluster because ‘hardly any grapes’
A pretty freshness but not so aromatically open. Big in the mouth, complex, fine texture, depth of fine flavour. An excellent wine – bravo!

Domaine Bachelet-Monnot

71150 Dezize-lès-Maranges
Tel: +33 3 85 91 16 82

Marc Bachelet presenting the wines of this young (2005) 10 hectare domaine.

2016 Chassagne-Montrachet
Ooh – this nose is directly lovely and invitingly fresh. Good direction, some open complexity. Less direct than I was hoping for (after the nose) but with fine, melting flavour. Very good, the finish is particularly super.

2016 Puligny-Montrachet
A hint of toast, some excitement of aroma here too. Wide, melting flavour, mineral still toasty in the middle, but super.

2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Les Referts
Also quite a toasty nose. More line, a more structural wine in the mouth. Melting flavour again. Plenty of finishing complexity – it’s excellent here.

2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Folatières
Ooh that’s super – the most inviting and interesting nose so far – no overt oak or reductive toast here. Mouth-filling, complex, delicious wine – this is easily the best for me – super wine!

Domaine Nicolas Perrault
rue du Four
71150 Dezize les Maranges
Tel : +33 3 85 91 14 67

All Nicolas’ vines are in Maranges – just 4 hectares of them – but producing wines of 7 appellations. His 2016s are not yet bottled as he has a very cold cellar. A great find – super wines!

2016 Maranges 1er Le Fussière Blanc
A modest width of freshness. Some ripe pineapple flavour here – flavour of richness, but balanced.

2015 Maranges 1er Clos des Roi
Not long bottled.
A nose with a modest red fruit width. Hmm, nice texture, nice width of flavour too. This is delicious, 20% wc – great wine!

2015 Maranges 1er Clos des Loyers
Also wc here – 100%
Big, bright open some roses from the wc – very inviting. Good volume in the mouth, a little more structural – ooh this is sooo good – complex and excellent!

2015 Maranges 1er Les Clos Roussots
Deep, the nose is almost liqueur-like. Big wine, there is extra of everything here – except accommodation. Super, but too much for me. The only delicatesse is in the fine finishing flavour.

2016 Maranges 1er Clos des Roi
Fresh, open and wide. Lots of width and complexity, less overt sucrosity than the 15s but lovely flavour. Super finish though – excellent here, the best part of this wine.

2016 Maranges 1er Clos de loyers
Fresh, tighter, but with fine focus. Round growing in presence and complexity, this is also super fine – full of interest and a good texture too.

2016 Maranges 1er Clos Roussots
Again, a relatively tight nose, though with some floral references here. Big, complex, supple, some tannin grain, but with lots of flavour. The structure is a little more rustic but here is the most interesting, of the 16s if not the 15s…

Needing no introduction – the DRC of Maranges 🙂

2016 Maranges Blanc
A tight nose, but not a bit tight in the mouth – with open complex and delicious ripe fruit. Delicious wine.

2016 Santenay Blanc
A more open nose, depth of fruit too. A little more direction and structure. This is super!

2016 Maranges Sur le Chêne
A deeply red fruited nose, faintly spiced too. Big, round, mouth-filling fresh red fruit.

2016 Maranges 1er Clos Roussot
A big punch of bright fruit, almost a hint of chocolate. Super nose. Growing, complex wine this is really super – simply delicious.

2015 Maranges 1er Le Croix Moines
Ooh a little whole cluster perfume here. Round but still quite structural and freshly complex too. Tasty but wait.

Domaine Catherine et Claude Maréchal
6, route de Chalon,
21200 Bligny-lès-Beaune
Tel: +33 3 80 21 44 37

A domaine created in 1981 that now runs to almost 13 Côte de Beaune hectares. Just a great range of wines showed here:

2016 Bourgogne Gravel
A deep nose of darker fruit. Round, layered, nicely textured wine. Theres a lot of flavour depth here for the label – super!

2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles-Vignes
Vines on the border with Pernand and Chorey
A big round cherry-fruited nose. A little more direct starting but opening wider and deeper in the finish – good complexity here.

2015 Chorey-lès-Beaune
Fresh, high tones here. Fresher and more structural than the Savigny. Long. Needs a little time but this is a super wine for the label.

2015 Pommard La Chanière
A deeper nose. Wide and fresh, a little floral too. This is again a more structural wine. But long finishing. I find it excellent.

2016 Bourgogne Blanc Cuvée Antoine
A little high toned and saline aromatic. Supple, tasty, layered delicious bourgogne – excellent again!

Domaine Rapet Père et Fils
2 Place de la Mairie

www.domaine-rapet.com

A very old domaine with history back to 1765, today exploiting 20 hectares of vines between Aloxe-Corton and Beaune.

2017 Bourgogne Rouge
A modest nose but with a pretty floral perfume. Full and silky for a bourgogne. Super.

2015 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Aux Fourneaux
Quite a tight nose, faint red fruit. Good width, a hint of oak in the middle but a wine with nice freshness.

2016 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Les Vergelesses
A high-toned nose, the aromas in the direction of red fruit. Plenty of depth of flavour here, with a nice finishing sweetness. Tasty wine.

Domaine Monthelie Douhairet Porcheret
1 Rue Cadette
21190 Monthelie
Tel: +33 6 26 05 33 65
www.domainemontheliedouhairet.com

A 6.5 ha domaine making 13 different appellations. Red and white, the most impressive ‘new’ domaine that I tasted – lovely wines.

2016 Monthelie Blanc cuvee Miss Armande
Deep and round, inviting nose. Round, muscled, but nicely balanced concentration. Good wine.

2016 Monthelie 1er les Duresses Blanc
A little extra freshness. Volume again, growing mouth-watering intensity. Absolutely delicious.

2016 Meursault 1er Santenots
This nose has a good width and a nice depth of slightly spiced aroma – inviting. A little reduction in the middle, but concentrated, balanced and fine textured. Imposing in the finish. Excellent.

2016 Monthelie Clos du Meix Garnier
A 1.5 ha monopole, situated in village
Pretty, fresh, focused red fruit. Fresh in the mouth too, less sweet than the Meursault but with lovely energy and deliciously red fruited personality. Lovely wine.

2016 Monthelie 1er les Duresses Rouge
A deeper nose, with slightly darker fruit. Extra depth of flavour. Quite lovely – fresh, complex and energetic – bravo!

2016 Volnay 1er En Champans
A bigger and deeper nose again. More profound – a wider palate – dark-red fruited, complex, and with lovely finishing energy. A great finish. Just a super range of wines!

Domaine Fernand et Laurent Pillot
2 Place des Noyers
21190 Chassagne-Montrachet
Tel: +33 3 80 21 99 83
www.vinpillot.com

A domaine exploiting 14 hectares, the vines coming from both the father’s and mother’s sides of the family.

2016 Chassagne-Montrachet
A compact nose but offering some width. Ingraining, tasty flavour. A long and mouth-watering finish. This needs to become a little more elegant, but it’s delicious in the finish.

2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Grandes Ruchottes
Here a little toast, a little extra vibration of aroma too. Direct, mineral, mouth-watering, delicious if with a little oaky reduction today – really a great finish!

2016 Meursault 1er Caillerets blanc
Possibly the only white from this appellation.
A nice width of aroma, tight below. Concentrated, a little oaked, almost an oily, silky texture. Saline. Long, long, long!

2016 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles-Vignes Rouge
3-4 parcels combined.
The nose is a little powdery, it’s a modest nose. Hmm, fine, wide, a little textured. It’s a modestly concentrated but tasty wine.

2016 Pommard Tavannes
Below Epenots with old masale selection. All destemmed
A little smoky, and deep too. Fresh, quite direct but a good depth too. Tasty.

2016 Beaune 1er Boucherotte
Vines just below the Clos des Mouches – Half is old-vines.
A little red top notes. A good density of flavour here – delicious in the middle, slightly grainy, but a great mouthful of flavour. Lovely finishing too.

2016 Pommard 1er Rugiens
One parcel in the high part, two in the low. A little more than half a hectare.
Smoky from oak again, faintly reductive. Bigger, lots of energy, very long finishing. Fine.

Domaine Francois Carillon
2-3 Place de l’Église
21190 Puligny-Montrachet
Tel: +33 3 80 21 00 80
www.francois-carillon.com

Yes this 6.5 hectare domaine has been seen here in Burgundy Report before, but I’ve still never actually visited!

2016 Bourgogne Aligote
A wide and attractive nose. A bead of acidity through the centre. Wide on the palate, tasty wine. Yum!

2016 Bourgogne Chardonnay
A modest intensity nose. Some gas. Slowly growing flavour, a little mineral. Quite good.

2016 Puligny-Montrachet
Tight but offering a little more aroma. Extra width and a good fresh energy here. Some melting sucrosity. Good.

2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Champ Gain
A slowly growing aroma with each wine. More width, growing more volume in the mouth too. Good complexity. Good wine.

2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Les Folatières
More width on a more open nose. Bigger volume, more melting, more concentrated, more delicious, very good.

Domaine Henri Boillot
51 Impasse du Pré des Taupes
21190 Meursault
Tel: +33 3 80 21 68 01

The domaine has 15 hectares of vines, and despite the (zone industrial) Meursault location, there is a healthy proportion of reds too – made by Henri’s son, Guillaume. The domaine (there is ‘maison’ too) is just famous for its (almost) 4 hectare Puligny 1er cru monopole – the Clos de Mouchère.

2016 Bourgogne blanc
Round attractive, quite complex nose – very inviting for a bourgogne. Gassy, lots of volume. But good energy and flavour. Quite good.

2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Clos de la Mouchère
Some oaky, reductive toast. Direct, a little saline, with melting flavour, lots of direction, indeed distinction too – with plenty of minerality. Fine.

2016 Bourgogne Rouge
A big and vibrant red-fruit nose – yes! Open flavour if modest volume but a nice energy and nice fruit.

2016 Volnay 1er Fremiets
Ooh quite a reductive nose. Absolutely mouth-filling. Quite a reductive wine though.

2016 Clos de Vougeot
A tight nose. Big, concentrated, layered wine in the mouth. Lots of energy, lots of concentration. Long, and once more slightly reduced in the finish. Impressive wine all the same.

Chalonnaise…

Domaine Laurent Cognard
9 rue des Fossés
71390 Buxy
Tel: +33 3 85 92 14 70

Laurent has the domain in Montagny but it was his grandfather who planted the vines in Pouilly-Loché. He began in 1997 with 5.5 ha of vines. His wife Perrine joined him in 2014, the domaine currently exploiting 10.5 ha of vines, including 5.10 hectares of Montagny 1er Cru.

2015 Pouilly-Loché Aux Barres
Quite a tight nose. Big in the mouth, but with energy, sucrosity of ripe fruit, a little cooked fruit but I like the fine energy.

2016 Montagny 1er
Nice fruit here – ripe and at the same time fresh. Lovely in the mouth with both volume and energetic complexity. Delicious.

2016 Montagny 1er Les Bassets
More aromatic concentration. A little more intensity in the mouth too but still with the same, mouth-filling, attractive fresh energy,

2016 Montagny 1er Le Vieux Châteaux
There really is an old turret here that used to be a lookout for Buxy!
Lots of freshness – a lively nose here. Extra depth of flavour, extra concentration also in the finish. Super wine!

2016 Montagny 1er Clos de Vieux Châteaux
Here all oak elevage, some new.
A deep nose, more green herbs. Ooh, again more apparent concentration, I’m almost struggling to keep up with the energy – but it works! A great finish – delicious!

11 Grand Rue
71150 Fontaines

They are going from strength to strength at this domaine – every year the wines are better – this winter I need to visit to taste 2017s – apparently they have 40 2017s! Such a great address.

2016 Montagny Les Coeres
In the villages part, there’s also the 1er part
A nice ripeness on the nose. Fine texture, layered, delicious – easy!

2016 Mercurey La Creuse
A little narrower nose but still with a fine ripe lemon at the core. Fresher, more open, more complex. Super mouth-watering finish.

2016 Rully 1er La Fosse
‘Red soil, should be for pinot, but…’
A spiced oak top note to the nose. Fresh, direct, like the last, quite mineral and tasty.

2016 Rully 1er Rabourcé
A little spice. Fresh and open detailed, complex wine – super and despite the same oak treatment as the last, showing none of it.

Reds:

2016 Mercurey la Charmée
More and more wc being used, almost 40% used in some cuvées now. More focus on source of wood for barrels too
Pretty red fruits. Bright, wide, fresh flavours, nicely structured. Energy and fine flavour. Yum!

2016 Mercurey Les Murgers
Big, open dark red fruited and complex – yes. Lots of mouth-filling flavour and energy. Complex, super finishing – yes!

2016 Rully 1er Les Champs Cloux
More perfume from wc, more direction than the last, accented with oak but also super complex and delicious. Yum!

2016 Mercurey 1er Clos L‘Eveque
More high tones in the aromatic complexity. Mouth-filling volume, a little more structure, slowly opening with finishing complexity. The most persistent finish of all. A great range!

Mâconnais…

Domaine Robert Denogent
Le Plan, 71960 Fuissé
Tel: +33 3 85 35 65 39
www.robert-denogent.com

Antoine and Nicolas Robert are working this 8.5 hectare domaine with their father Jean-Jacques. This is a domaine that likes a longer elevage – 20-30 months long!

2016 Mâcon Villages ‘Les Sardines’
Not yet bottled, but I like the fishy label!
Bright and fresh, with faint aromatic citrus. This wine has good direction, of line, then a lovely finish. Tasty wine.

2016 Viré-Clessé Les Chazelles
A more pungent depth of aroma. Wide with more intensity, a hint of gas too.

2016 St.Veran Vieilles-Vignes
Not much going on here, the nose is fresh but rather tight. Plenty of volume and a super if slightly prickly (gas) intensity. A good finish but slightly appley.

2016 Pouilly-Fuissé le Cras
Another slightly pinched nose. Less sweet, lots of mouth-filling flavour and super intensity. Lovely though hard to test after the super St.Veran

DSC06536Domaine Fichet
651 route d’Azé – le Martorêt
71960 Igé
Tel: +33 3 85 33 30 46
www.domainefichet.fr

A domaine christened in 1976, before that the family farmed for the local coop (Cave des Vignerons d’Igé). The domaine is 34 hectares today making about 20 different cuvées.

2016 Mâcon Villages La Crepillonne
A bright and open nose. Lots of energy here, tasty lingering flavour too – balanced and tasty – yes!

2016 Macon-Burgy Les 3 Terroirs
Fresher, good width. Quite aromatic in the mouth, concentrated if a little structured today – wait a little but here is fine energy again.

2016 Château London Mâcon-Igé
A deep and aromatic nose. More depth of concentration, and another level of complexity too – excellent. And really long too.

2016 Mâcon-Igé La Cras
The last had 10% wood, this 100%.
A big floral, aromatic nose. Flowers, perfume, this is super. For my own palate too much in the direction of viognier but delicious wine all the same…

Denis Jeandeau
Le Bourg
71960 Fuissé
Tel: +33 3 85 40 97 55
www.denisjeandeau.com

Denis with the infectious laugh, is one of the Artisans-Vignerons that I like to visit from time to time. Really a great producer – his wine put on as much of a show as he does! He’s a 5th generation vigneron who began his own domaine in 2006.

2016 Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles-Vignes
From vines in the direction Cras
A bright and fresh nose. Volume, energy, mouth-watering, with layers of flavour. Excellent wine!

2016 Pouilly-Fuissé Secret Mineral
A wider and fresher aromatic. More intense, more growing in the mouth, beautifully mouth-watering complexity. Juicy, delicious wine. Yes!

2010 Viré-Clessé from Jeroboam
A little more aromatic complexity here. Mouth-filling freshness, a darker complexity in the middle. Structural, still, but meltingly good finishing flavour.

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?
