Louis-Clement on 2016:
2016 is superb – and it’s already tasting good! We really had to deal with all the possible complications and there was so much work in the vines – even a little hail in some sectors – plus we battled against the mildew and the weeds – but August and September brought super weather. The harvest was excellent with good degrees of alcohol. I did a little more carbonic maceration this year and harvested in 25 kg cases – I’ve really a lot of enthusiasm for this vintage…

Louis-Clement on 2015:
2015 has it all – except for quantity! It was a very dry vintage, so I’ve only a half harvest. The wines have 14.5% though and they are for keeping at least 3-4 years.

Louis-Clement suggests that it is possible to add a little to his prices in 2015. He also notes that his parcel of MAV had very low harvest volume due to replanting, so probably will not have that cuvée again for at least 3 years.

The wines…

An engaging producer with tasty and engaging wines…

2015 Julienas La Croix de la Bottière
Only 1.5g of sulfur at bottling time – the only sulfur! Bottled for the solstice 21 June 2016. Elevage in tank on its CO2
A big open and very attractive fresh dark fruit – lots of life here. Supple, but deeply rewarding texture and line of flavour in the mouth – really a semi-hidden tannin – layers of flavour, faintly accented with a little spice. Warmly mouth-watering flavour in the mid-palate, long line of finishing flavour. Regardless of the actual alcohol percent, this is very balanced and very tasty!

2015 Julienas Vayolette
From the west of the appellation on a plain south-facing, steep slope, the soil is blue stone. Have a 3ha parcel.
A deeper and darker nose – tighter but not closed. Ooh – this has a cooler, fresher, more intense line – darkly flavoured a wine that’s more direct and of more line than the Bottière. Lots of energy, it’s really more open and engaging in the finish. Much more mineral in the finish – this is really excellent – super wine. Yum!
