Laurence on 2016:
“2016 – frost! But were lucky enough not to be too harshly touched – just one parcel where about half was lost. Hail! The first hail hit and we lost 70%, second hail came and of-course that didn’t help. Fortunately it is possible to make not too bad a training, so hopefully 2017 wont be too bad. Mildew required 14 treatments – then there was a semi drought! The vintage was as much emotional as physical. The grapes in the end were not bad. I’m not sure it will be a vintage that stays in the memory, but the wines seem to have a nice balance so let’s see. Vinifications were quite long but the malos are going fast.”

Laurence on 2015:
“2015 – no hail here as the hail was principally in Courgis and Chablis. So we started calmly on the 9th September with a nice harvest and with more grapes than in 2014 too. Not lots of acidity in the cuvées, a bit like 2005, or 13 but cleaner!

“Two cuvées are not yet in bottle. We sold less in bulk, fortunately, so it can balance a little the volume that is missing from 2016”

The wines…

All with DIAM-type of closure. As every year, a great range.

2015 Petit Chablis
Bottled in April.
Some fine, fresh, open and mineral notes – this is really inviting. Round, very good volume, citrus, a little rigour but really tasty. Absolutely lovely!

2015 Chablis
Bottled in July.
Really a big, bright open nose, almost a hint of menthol. A little less sweetness, a more direct line, plenty of concentration and a growing agrume note – a little rigour again, but with nice soft corners. This needs a hint more patience vs the PC, but again super tasty!

2015 Chablis 1er Fourchaume
A December bottling.
A mix of fruit and flowers – a nice clean, pure width of aroma. Round, some richness but here more of flavour than texture – very much more complex and involving. A certain florality to the mineral notes. Long line of mineral flavour, again with a floral dimension. This is my new favourite!

2015 Chablis 1er Homme Mort
Early bottling because it’s a small cuvée.
Ooh – that’s lovely – good volume, brightness, freshness, and a really engaging mix of citrus and mineral. Hmm, this like the nose is just great, a hint of cushioning to the texture, but it’s a beautiful agrume flavour – long, vibrant and with, once more, just a little rigour to the finishing minerality. Bravo!
2015 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
Tasted from tank. First vines planted by father in 71-72. There are normally multiple bottlings per year here.
Wide, nicely vibrant. Bright, more direct, melting across the palate, wide, mouth-watering finish, hmm. This is also really excellent.
2015 Chablis Demoiselle
Also tasted from tank. Two parcels
A wider nose, more open, a good weight of agrume too. Some fat, then melting over the palate . A lovely bright wine, direct and brilliantly citrus. Long and really tasty. A little more floral in the finish. Once again, truly excellent.
