Charly on the 2016:
Never seen a season like it in 3 generations of the family. Rain, cold, frost – all the domaine’s vines were subject to frost – of-course some more than others. Almost no explanation for why some parts more frosted than others – really there’s no coherence. Flowering was difficult afterwards. We lost not quite half the harvest. I started the harvest a little early as there was some porriture, but I’m happily surprised on how they look so far. There’s good potential – I like the freshness.

Charly on the 2015s:
“The 2015 harvest was early, but not so hurried as we thought it would be when we got back from our holidays! Two small parcels were hit by hail in Fleys but compared to other domaines we were very lucky. There was a massive difference in just a few metres; our Mont de Milieu was fine, but the facing Montée de Tonnerre was badly affected. We have bought some Bougros in must, but we were lucky that it wasn’t hit. We harvested until 12th. The wines are very easy to appreciate – it’s a superb vintage, atypical for sure given its richness and some wines are a hint exotic, but ‘pleasant and fruity’ under-sells the vintage. The wines are opulent after the pure, classic style of the 2014s.”

The wines…

Simply great wines at this estate this year.

2015 Petit Chablis
From plateau above Fleys. This and the Chablis sealed with DIAM.
Wide, silky, some lime fruit. Big, muscular but ripe and with lovely mouth-watering flavour. A delicious, refreshing wine.
2015 Chablis
About 12 hectares represented by this wine, so needs two bottlings, the second is normally about 2 months later.
Ooh, that’s a nice, deep, vibrant, subtly reduced nose – super. Wider, more mouth-watering weight of flavour, sweetly mouth-watering. Not a wine of exaggeration, but one of absolute gorgeousness. Bravo!
2015 Chablis les Fourneaux
Bottled after harvest. Two parcels overlooking the village of Fleys – steep, south-facing, and very warm in the summer.
Deep, intense, very faintly reductive and with a suggestion of oak spice. Very wide, beautifully textured, beautiful mouth-watering intensity. Wide, mineral and über-tasty!
2015 Chablis 1er Mont de Milieu
Also direct south-facing with less clay than Fourneaux but with more limestone. The domaine’s oldest vines are here, indeed virtually all are old vines.
Deep, muscular citrus notes, seemingly with a fine aromatic texture. Also wide, fresh, mineral, eventually mouth-watering and rewarding flavour. A great wine – just too easy to drink – lucky that they are already starting to commercialise!

2015 Chablis Bougros
Bought from a friend, bottled in November.
A deep nose, finely textured, not full power, a little tight. Mouth-filling, textured, faintly rich but growing, growing flavour always wrapped in silk. Large, mouth-watering and delicious but much more primary than the premiers. For all that, it’s really delicious. Totally different energy yet with great balance. Not a full power finish, yet it is as long as any. Yum!

Agree? Disagree? Anything you'd like to add?

I think you mean Chablis 2015 (not 2014)!
