Laurence on 2015:
“2015 – no hail here as the hail was principally in Courgis and Chablis. So we started calmly on the 9th September with a nice harvest and more grapes than in 14. Not lots of acidity in the cuvées, a bit like 2005, or 13 but cleaner!”
Laurence on 2014:
“We had a little less volume but we would say a normal volume. There’s a really lovely balance to the wines, really a lovely vintage for keeping, like 2012 or even 2008.”
The wines…
All with DIAM-type of closure. As every year, a great range.
2014 Petit Chablis
Bottled in April.
A modest but rather fruity nose. Round, a little richness, ripeness of fruit too – really an uncommon richness for Petit Chablis. Super to drink.
2014 Chablis
Bottled in July.
A wider, higher toned nose, less fruit more mineral. Richness of texture and again a relatively ripe fruit – but silky and with a lovely slow delivery of flavour. Really a tasty wine to think about while enjoying.
2014 Chablis Vieilles-Vignes
First vines planted by father in 71-72. Just bottled in December – more because there was no place to store the bottles! There are 4-5 bottlings per year here.
Here a fine wide top not note, a narrower but pretty nose below. Also a richness of both texture and flavour, silky, really this is more outstanding in mid-palate with a beautifully vibrant minerality and zero aggression – just a really tasty wine again.
Bottled in December. A parcel selection with average age of 25 years.
A nose of both width and depth – fresh, airy and inviting. A much more floral flavour, similarly richly textured, with a fine line of mouth-watering flavour – this is really lovely! Very slowly lingering. My new favourite!
A mix of fruit and flowers – a nice clean, pure width of aroma. Round, some richness but here more of flavour than texture – very much more complex and involving. A certain florality to the mineral notes. Long line of mineral flavour, again with a floral dimension. This is my new favourite!
2014 Chablis 1er Homme Mort
Early bottling because it’s a small cuvée.
A little narrower but deeper and more mineral nose – a certain elegance and attractiveness. Again, mouth-filling, beautifully textured with a little fat then a super burst of mouth-watering flavour – just a little more intensity here. Super wine, but the Fourchaume stays my favourite!
