Eve on the last vintages:
“In 2015, luckily we missed almost all the hail, if not the 80mm of rain. Fortunately despite the rain, everything in the vineyard stayed clean. As for 2014 it’s a long time since we saw such clean grapes, particularly after the difficulty with the 2013s. 2014 is a vintage of nervosité. We had a good crop after the 28 hl/ha of 2013 – back closer to 50 hl/ha. The 2013s have eaten tons of sulfur so some growers question their stability…”

The domaine has been in conversion to bio since 2012, from 2015 they have certification.

The wines…

Diam 5 here is the closure of choice here.

Clearly a very tasty set of wines, which showcase the fine 2014 vintage.

2014 Chablis
3 different bottlings, this from the second in November, third not yet done – from 13 hectares of vines.
Fresh, wide, seashore – attractive. A super wide and intense front of flavour. An excellent line of intensity with a frame of salinity. Tasty wine indeed!

2014 Chablis La Part des Anges
Two small parcels, ‘a nice argilles blanche with fine exposure.’
More width, a hint of herb and wider fruit. Wider, more of a wave of flavour – more intensity too. A lovely purity of slightly sugared minerality. Excellent.

2014 Chablis 1er Les Troëmes
Only 0.13 hectare near the lake of Beines, just 2k bottles sold in French market.
A more profound nose, deeply mineral. Ouf! Now that has intensity and it’s more a direct line of flavour than a width. Very mineral again but without any austerity. Super, very characterful wine!

2014 Chablis 1er Vaucoupin
There are some aromatic similarities here, despite a completely different shape – here is a width, but a little tight. Also a width on the palate too. A good intensity, energy and really lovely complexity – an easier experience than the last wine today. Lovely finishing intensity – super.

2014 Chablis 1er Les Fourneaux
About 25% oak elevage some in demi-muids, all old.
A discreet, indeed tight nose. Faint minerals only. Gorgeous, layered delivery, in waves – this is really super. Bravo! Really gorgeously flavoured wine.

2014 Chablis 1er Fourchaume
Also discreet, with some mineral reflections, almost suggesting a reduction. A little less padding but super-mouth-watering mineral intensity with a hint of sucrosity – then another burst of flavour in the finish. More intensity and more energy but for that reason harder to enjoy today than the Fourneaux – but wait! 😉

2014 Chablis 1er Mont de Milieu
Assembled in tank; about 50% in-barrel elevage before being finished in tank.
Here from tank there’s a modest but becoming reduction. Bright, complex with a lovely but not excessive energy – still a hint of reduction but essentially a lovely composed wine that should be excellent. A nice finishing salinity too. Fine!
