Savigny-lès-Beaune Les Peuillets

Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose shows quite some powdery aspects but with flashes of fresh raspberry fruit, occasional barrel-notes too. In the mouth there is a really nice balance of fruit, acidity and concentration – a little CO2 exacerbates the tannin making it a little raspy and rustic to start with – you need an hour-plus for the gas to fade – soon it becomes smooth and the extra depth of fruit flavour then comes to the fore. The flavours are long, with some fruit mouth-watering fruit elements but majors on a mineral, stony fruit. A wine to wait for.

Medium-plus colour. Darker, deeper aromas. Full and wide – again with plenty of velvet tannin but with more depth of fruit. Very serious wine here. The aroma from the last drops of wine were much redder…

Medium colour – salmon pink at the rim. The nose, right from popping the cork is wide-open, brimming with coffee-laden, musky aromas, maybe a hint of brett too but it’s only part of the complexity. Quite well textured, decently balanced with unseen but slowly mouthwatering acidity. Lovely extension and intensity in the mid-palate that fades into a decent finish. Very much enjoyed!

A tight core of red fruits and a tiny amount of darker reduction on the nose. A hint of dissolved CO2 and deep and lovely cassis fruit. Decent length with just a a little barrel flavour.

Medium colour. The nose is rather understated, I would even say tight, just faint red fruit with floral hints. Ripe, smooth fruit grows in intensity across your tongue and into the mid-palate. Almost good this.

The colour is becoming quite mature. On the nose it’s instantly about warm confiture with a powdery core of red fruit. Soft, relatively concentrated and shows a good burst of interest in the mid-palate and decent density – it needs just a hint more acidity for me but the length is good. Overall an interesting and tasty if not covetable wine.

The concentrated nose is deep, dark and forward. A really nice balance here between the fruit and the structure, and with lingering flavour. Plenty of character, so worth looking out for if well priced.

(Magnum) Medium colour. The nose shows quite some oak overlaying roasted fruits. The palate is incredibly unruly but also quite fun – oak, astringent tannin and that same roasted fruit – you could never use the term ‘balanced’.
