Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits

2009 Jayer-Gilles Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits

High toned aromas and no obvious oak – very good width too – this is very nice. Very fine, quite narrow but mated to a fine acidity and intensity. I like the fruit very much and it has interesting, rather than heavy-handed, oak accents. Neither a super-ripe nor a fluffy textured 09, simply a stunning Bourgogne – excellent.

2009 Lécheneaut (Philippe et Vincent) Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits

Sweet aromas that are also rather oaky, but not unpleasantly so. Plenty of acidity and an understated fur of tannin – decent finishing power too. Just a bit too much oaky make-up today; return in 12 months…

Vines from the plateau above Vosne-Romanée. The nose has a nice depth with a hint of musk and flowers. Fuller and rounder than the Bougogne Pinot Noir with more grain to the tannin – a nice wine this.
