Corton-Charlemagne

Thirty percent new oak here. The nose offers-up understated complexity. Not surprisingly this is both fuller and more intense than the 1er Cru. I find it very well proportioned indeed.

Hint of sulfur. Deep fruit aromas, riper than 2009, Wide with lots of energy in the mouth – the acidity seems perfectly dissolved in the whole. Flavour leaches from your gums, plenty of it mineral – the finish is long and narrowing. Very fine.

Again slightly savoury aromas. Full and quite fat – the acidity is quite late to show itself, despite that your mouth waters in the finish – and it’s a long mineral finish.

Medium yellow. The nose starts with a width of Charlemagne herbs, slowly but surely taking on a warmer, slightly heady orchard blossom aroma. Start drinking when it’s too cold and this is certainly not a Charlemagne of instant impact, rather it builds both concentration and intensity in the mouth. In the mid-palate there is GC extract and intensity that fades on beautiful acidity. Silky understatement but considerable length, no extraneous inputs, just pure wine. Yum!

The aromas have width, are super-dense but deep and fresh. This has really 1st class texture. It is linear and mineral, the intensity growing all the time. Truly excellent – chapeau!

There is a hint of pineapple to the nose – against a creamy background. There is width here that seems to keep expanding! Very good intensity. Nicely long. A remarkably approachable Charlemagne for such a baby!

2008 Château Corton-Andre Corton-Charlemagne

Forward, concentrated aromas that major on pineapple. Intense and flavourful, if a little loose-knit to start with. A super finish to the rescue.

2008 Patriarche Corton-Charlemagne

Fresher aromas – quite some herbs and complexity – seems that it was picked less ripe than the others. Another loose/soft wine to start with that partly improves in the mid-palte.
