2006 Mugneret-Gibourg Georges Bourgogne

The second from this case. Medium-plus colour. The deep nose shows plenty of dark cherry. More concentrated than you expect given the label, with a velvet texture and showing an extra dimension of flavour in the mid-plate. A decent finish too. This wine is in an excellent place right now!

Medium cherry-red. Sweet, only slightly smokey stems, rather candied red/blue fruit. The palate is as sweet as the nose, with understated acidity. Occasional sips give a padded, slightly plush texture, but most show a mid-palate/tannins with a slightly astringent, sharp effect. Quite long finishing, but this far from a ‘together’ wine. Day two, less aromatically interesting, but more ‘together’ on the palate. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and say wait another year or two – it’s not really for today though…

Relatively deep colour with purple hints. The nose is heavy with dark, sugar-coated cherry. There’s a soft texture and decent concentration. Slightly tart acidity is more than offset by young fruit that is both stylish and concentrated plus shows a good extra dimension in the mid-plate. A reasonable, if rather faint finish is the last act – perhaps dilute would also be an appropriate alternate description, despite the length. Not a long note, but a bottle that was emptied alarmingly fast. At a good price, this is worth going ‘long’ on for your cellar.

Quite deep colour. The nose shows floral tones and a nice depth. In the mouth there’s width and good acidity to go with the faint, furry tannins and a suggestion of dark oak. An excellent Bourgogne.

High-toned with plenty of action – it’s quite pretty. There’s a mineral aspect to the flavours, decent acidity and length. Not worth the tariff, but a good wine.

Medium colour. Not so wide, but has an interesting linear depth – fine and clean. Good concentration with ripe fruit and an understated structure. Quite nice.

The nose impresses with its width and some creamy depth too. Nicely covers the palate – a little structure and nice balance. Good length – a very tasty bourgogne.
