Chambolle-Musigny

Medium ruby red. The nose starts with a little deep oak and mainly red shaded fruit – just a little heavy and cumbersome. Slowly the oak fades (about 90% gone) and the impression becomes more high-toned and just a little more refined – by day two it’s quite fine. The palate is quite concentrated and dense with lightly grained tannin and just a hint of bitterness – but this seems derived from the faint toasty oak. The finish is faint but long. Overall this is no shrinking violet, rather a relatively powerful wine that could do with a little more delicacy. Certainly has a long life ahead

Medium cherry-red. A lingering nose of cream-tinged cherry fruit. Linear in presentation, an athletic pose though perhaps could do with a little more concentration. Good acidity and understated tannin. The length surprises and is more in line with the depth of the nose than the width of the palate. Tasty and enjoyable but with just a hint of disappointment too.

Medium cherry-red, fades to salmon pink at the edge. The nose shows powdery, pure red fruit. The palate gives a very fresh expression, medium length but quite lacy and très elegant. The fine tannins give a little bite on the finish but this is a lovely, pure and elegant rather than powerful example of Chambolle.

Medium-plus cherry-red, no fading. Bready and meaty notes mingle with the fruit – after a while it’s almost like minestrone soup – quite bizarre. Perhaps a little sulfur was causing the problem, given time it’s mainly creamy black cherry. The palate is much more like it, fresh black-shaded fruit and really good acidity. Silky with good concentration and medium, medium-plus length. Very tasty.

Young medium cherry-red colour. Nice nose, has both depth and interest. Very good acidity and a slight grain to the tannin but chewing this wine releases many flavours. Medium, medium-plus length. Short-term I’d take it with food, longer-term I think this will come together very nicely. Good wine.

Medium, mediu-plus cherry red. Pronounced black cherry notes on the nose that slowly become ‘redder’ with time. Pure 2001-style fruit with good concentration. The finish is a good one too. I like this wine.

A blend of four vineyards, including one 1er cru (Baudes). Bright, medium cherry colour. The nose has hints of earth and smooth red fruits. On the palate, gorgeous red fruits, medium soft tannins which coat your teeth. Medium length. Very interesting.
