Bourgogne Rouge

2000 Méo-Camuzet Bourgogne Rouge

A negociant wine. Medium, medium-pale cherry red. Rather subdued nose of, well, not that much actually. Some fat, good acidity and a nice creamy tinge to the finish. The tannin is there, but not obtrusive. It’s a reasonable enough wine, but today it’s giving up very little, and given it’s the price of a village wine I can’t really give it the thumbs up.

Medium cherry red. The nose is of earthy cooked red cherries against a faintly smokey background. Quite fat with soft tannins and good extension on the finish. Quite a good Bourgogne and worth leaving for 1-2 years.

Pale yellow. The nose is subdued and mildly alcoholic. The palate has good acidity with a grapefruit and melon fruit profile. Slight oak on the finish. Chill it for an aperitif, otherwise not so exciting.

Similar depth of colour to the Drouhin wine, though shaded to ruby. The nose is cherry and raspberry with just a hint of turned earth. The palate shows black and red berried fruits. Dood acidity and smooth tannins. Nice length to the finish. Similar softness to the Drouhin, though with a touch more concentration. A good wine.

2000 Groffier Robert - Père et Fils Bourgogne Rouge

Slightly animale nose with primary black fruit. For a Bourgogne this has excellent density and very good acidity. The tannins are quite grainy with blackberry and raspberry fruit. This is very nice wine and excellent Bourgogne.

2000 Arnoux Robert Bourgogne Rouge

Dark cherry colour. Nose is bright red cherry fruit with just a hint of strawberry. Nice acidity, mild tannin and bright primary fruits. Medium to light bodied, in fact reminiscent of a nice Fleurie but ‘sharper’. At just under £6 from the domaine good value. It’s a lovely drink now.
