Bourgogne Blanc

1997 Leroy (Maison) Bourgogne Blanc

By on September 30, 2006 #asides

Pale golden. The nose shows hints of grapefruit and a faint oxidative note – though certainly not oxidised – together with high-toned alcoholic notes. Some sweetness in the mouth, racy and lithe, quite linear. Good persistence and surprisingly little obvious ‘97 character. Despite showing very little overt fruit character this is a young wine. Interesting and no rush to drink.

1997 Guillemot-Michel Pierre et Marc Bourgogne Blanc

Medium golden. The nose still shows, indeed is dominated by, toasty bread notes, some sweet high-toned fruit peeks from behind. This is sweet from the ripe fruit with medium density to compliment a medium length finish. Made in clean and tasty style that’s still fresh as a daisy. Nice wine.

1997 Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc

Pale-medium yellow. The nose has a lovely lemony custard note and shows good depth. Fat with very good acidity and for the appelation tremendous depth and length, just a trace of butteryness. This is seriously good bourgogne and would put most villages wines to shame. I think I shall order a case!
