Mischief and Mayhem

2009 Mischief and Mayhem Meursault Les Genevrières

By billn on November 17, 2011

Toasted bread and yellow fruit aromas that tend towards the savoury. In the mouth this holds your interest with a good mineral undertow; perfectly balanced there are flavours of fruit and more stones but they only appear in the mid-palate. Long and lingering, the last drops in the glass offering classic Meursault aromas. Super.

Medium-pale yellow. Aromatic width with a lovely sweet brioche and faint citrus notes. This fills your

mouth with wide citrussy acidity and a super length. Lithe rather than fat and very moreish!

A fresh nose that initially is a little less focused than the villages wine but gets better and better in the glass as it warms. The palate is rich and powerful but is nicely cut by the citrussy acidity, expands quite well in the mid-palate. Today – and it hasn’t been bottled long – it has all the pieces to be a very fine wine but the cohesion, despite some balance seemed a little unconvincing. I’m sure this will be super and probably already more ‘together’ by the time you read this.

It’s a ‘warm’ concentrated and ripe nose that starts wide rather than deep. Time in the glass shows a little baked bread and even a little caramel. Soft and well-textured palate, there’s fat, but it’s well-cut by the acidity – acidity that pushes the admirable finish even longer. A very nice wine.
