2009 Jayer-Gilles Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits

By billn on November 06, 2011

High toned aromas and no obvious oak – very good width too – this is very nice. Very fine, quite narrow but mated to a fine acidity and intensity. I like the fruit very much and it has interesting, rather than heavy-handed, oak accents. Neither a super-ripe nor a fluffy textured 09, simply a stunning Bourgogne – excellent.

Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose offers slightly diffuse width and a little toffee. Plenty of tannin and acidity. The bouncy fruit is almost good actually but I’d wait 1-2 years before revisiting for maybe a more balanced performance.

Medium, medium-plus colour. A nose that has plenty of oak – dark, slightly toasty and sweet with fainter higher tones. Equally flavour-packed as the previous day’s Lejeune but less fat despite the oak quotient. Good acidity that leaks sweet flavour across the tongue. Plenty of oak but it certainly diddn’t turn me off. This is a very tasty, darkly fruited drink right now.
