Boisset Jean-Claude

2006 Boisset Jean-Claude Morey St.Denis Monts Luisants Blanc

Pale yellow. The nose has hints of vanilla and botrytis – neither over-powering but it doesn’t give the impression that the wine will be a whirlwind of energy. As a complete contrast the acidity and, hence, the overall impression this wine delivers is quite ’2008′; fresh, some minerality but also still a depth of rich, faintly vanilla-inflected flavour. This is a very, very successful wine for the vintage – it’s so good in-fact, I could even be tempted to buy more, even though there was only one barrel! Yum!

Medium colour. The nose is about hints of tar, licorice, blacker cherry and bramble fruit over a more mineral base. A narrow entry that widens in the mid-palate and pushes a long finish that’s borne on super acidity. Quite transparent and very interesting. Intense, though almost too understated because of its primary nature. Was a lovely bottle.

One of the rarer bottlings by JCBoisset winemaker Gregory Patriat – a single barrel, 295 bottles. Pale lemon yellow. A nose of creamy oak and bright pineapple fruit that slowly fades. Well textured and with perfect acidity. The flavours are ripe – not too much so – and tasty, but far from simple, I even imageine (perhaps) a little aniseed and coconut. Slowly fades. A super wine, and a fine buy.

Medium-plus cherry red. The nose is soft and heavy with cherry-red fruit accented by faint white pepper. Fills your mouth with ripe red fruit that widens in the mid-palate and takes on a slightly savoury element. The acidity is perfectly balanced, lingering in the mouthwatering finish. Understated concentration and intensity. Very primary though accomplished and tasty.

Twenty percent new oak, from 60 year-old vines just above the Clos de la Roche. The nose is quite different to the last wines – just focused red fruits. In the mouth there’s lots of interest and ever-more flavour through the mid-palate. Excellent!

From seventy year-old vines that produced less than 20 hl/ha. Forward, with precise, very red fruit on the nose. Big and concentrated in the mouth. Ripe fruit that travels very long into the finish. Very, very good.

Seven barrels in ~20% new oak. The nose is a little tight but it’s lovely in the mouth, just a little fatter and richer than the Savigny. Good balance though – this is very nice.

Only in bottle for one week. The nose is rather tight. In the mouth it manages to be concentrated without excess fat and shows an obvious extra dimension of flavour in the mid-palate that also seeps into the finish. Super.

10% new oak. A very high-toned, slightly floral nose – but focused. The palate is fresh, mineral and easy. Good and not to simple…
