More seashore aroma, with lemon-lime hints. Mouth-watering, saline, and another level of dynamism. A great finish. Bravo Chablis!

Pale lemon-yellow. The nose has some intensity; high tones over ripe, linear fruit – there’s no seashore but it’s nice enough. Versus the ripe, slightly sweet Drouhin bottling, that is amply balanced by lovely acidity, this is just a little more austere; again super acidity but this time a little more to the fore but the mid-palate intensity – to which the acidity contributes – is super. Reasonable length too. Painfully young, but like an itch you can’t stop scratching – and this type of itch is usually more expensive to scratch – this is already my third bottle and I can feel another order coming on…
2005 Maison Blanche Chablis
Medium-pale yellow. The nose is wide, fresh and shows faint citrus hints – it’s a hit. The palate is very concentrated and plush for such a ‘lowly’ wine with almost good acidity – I would have liked just a little more – but a good-plus length. Base Chablis from this vintage can be incredibly successful and I have to say I’ve had (so far) more bulls-eyes from Chablis than the Côte de Beaune. An excellent potential
2005 Drouhin Joseph Chablis
This high-toned, slightly nervous nose shows really ample depth, minerality and just a twist of citrus. Lovely acidity that rolls around the mouth with a good citrus bite. The flavours nicely expand on the palate and there is an uncommon intensity for a wine of this appellation. Super, crisp wine with a medium-plus length of finish. Really excellent for the label. If I can find it, I suspect this to be a wine to buy by the case-load for my ‘house-wine 2007? and perhaps beyond…

Pale-medium lemon yellow colour. Fresh and hightoned – a little greengage and with swirling pear too. Equally fresh palate that has very good concentration for the appellation, equally good acidity plus a little ‘why are you drinking me now?’ austerity. Leave it a couple more years to flatten that element of harshness in the mid-palate and you should have a ‘village’ wine that punches above its weight.
