2014 Drouhin Joseph Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru

By billn on July 21, 2019

Mich rounder, almost a little smokiness, almost reductive – but very subtle. This has a bubbling energy, depth of very fine flavour in the mid and finish too – more texture of the earthy tannin in the finish. Holding long, a good finish. Nothing floral in the aromas, but very round, balanced and tasty to finish.

2009 Tremblay Cécile Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes

Actually holding onto its young colour very well. If there’s not much colour development, then there’s plenty of aroma development and such appealing complexity too. Ooh, that’s a beautiful energy – freshness but depth of complex flavour with much maturity. That’s really delicious. Bravo!

2009 Confuron JJ Nuits St.Georges Les Fleurières

Medium-plus colour, some purple hues. The nose has quite some ripe depth, perhaps going lower with a hint of toastiness. Cool and intense – that’s a great start. The tannin is slightly blocky but not really grainy. Mouth-watering flavour grows in the mid-palate before falling away. There’s a hint of 2009 on the nose but this is lithe, clean and not a bit sweet and fat like some from the vintage – it’s a bit of a ‘refresher’ of a wine.

2010 Marchand Pascal Chambolle-Musigny

A lovely nose with a waxy impression and aromatic depth – very fine and pretty. The flavours are mineral and elegant – structure like fine bone china. There’s a little coconut oak in the finish – I’d be looking for that to fade, but this is a little beauty.

2010 Marchand Pascal Morey St.Denis En la Rue de Vergy

By billn on May 06, 2012

The nose offers up a depth of creamed red fruit, darker than the Chambolle but also rather refined. The acidity is a little more obvious but it’s cemented to good intensity, smooth tannin and a mineral length. Love it!

2010 Marchand Pascal Meursault

Wide, pungent aromas. The texture is padded but very well balanced and supports plenty of mid-palate flavour that follows through perfectly into the finish too. Excellent villages and less overtly oak flavoured than the reds.

2006 Château de Marsannay Gevrey-Chambertin

By billn on April 24, 2012

Medium, medium-plus colour. The nose begins with deep but narrow aromas with a little mint-leaf and occasional but very pretty flowers and cream. There seems not too much tightening of flavour yet – there’s still a little rasp of tannin and a reasonable width of flavour too. Good acidity, which helps further expand the flavours in the mid-palate, which also shows a nice floral aspect. A more than adequate wine for the label!
