Morey Pierre

2006 Morey Pierre Bourgogne Pinot Noir

By billn on January 31, 2011

This wine has already lost the inviting youthful fruit aromas of its first two years; it’s now narrower but perhaps deeper too with a hint of leather with some macerating dark cherry. Nice and round in the mouth and still with a hint of fat to the texture. Initially there’s just a little bitter/sour in the finish but it’s a little character before either I or it reach equilibrium and it’s gone! What’s left is a nice wine of quite enough depth for the label, still some interesting fruit and last drops that leave a lovely aroma in the glass. This is the last from half a dozen – all drank well – I would say drink-up, I have.

Medium colour. High tones, with pretty red berry and cherry fruit – it’s really lovely. The palate is not quite how I remember it; the texture is reasonably silky with just an edge of fat, but the acidity is much more in the ascendant than when I first had it – it’s also quite tart. Mouth-watering length, not surprisingly, but with a sneaky creamy edge. The fruit on the nose remains super. I would not touch another of these for at least 3 years as I does remind me of the ‘96 Leroy bourgogne at the same stage, and that’s a beauty now!

Medium, medium-plus cherry-red. The nose is deep and heavily scented, darkly fruited, edged with a little cream and with something just a little more floral above – very impressive. The palate is a little more linear than the nose, medium density with good dark fruit, slightly forward acidity and a nice extra dimension in the mid-palate. The reasonably grained tannin is in the background.

Medium colour. High-toned, slightly mineral nose under-pinned with very nice fruit. Ripe, tasty and clean with good concentration and plenty of energy and dimension. Excellent regional.

High-toned aromas, quite intense, a little estery note somewhere, but overall fine depth. Quite rich, the acidity is just enough to balance, but the depth is superb for the appellation. Really fine.

A trace of sulfur dioxide on the nose, but in the mouth this is quite full-bodied and shows a well-judged balancing acidity. I like this very much

Pale straw. High toned nose of citrus and white flowers. Palate seems a little woody at first with peach and good acidity. Just a little more mineral with medium length. I like the style of this.

Pale yellow. The nose shows a little fat and is quite citrussy. Lovely lemony palate with excellent acidity which manages to push the finish a little longer. Simple, but lovely on a hot afternoon.
