Bouchard Père et Fils

2007 Bouchard Père et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir

Medium, medium-pale colour. The nose is fresh, with a slight warmth to the perfumed red fruits. Some sweetness and intensity, though the acidity seems on a slightly higher level – still it helps deliver a lingering flavour. Chill it for the summer.

Wide and fresh, almost floral, soapy aromas. I don’t have the impression of cut or focus, yet there is a core of fine fruit at the center.

Bottled at the end of October. Medium, medium-pale colour. There’s a soft but rather tight nose hiding in the glass. Fresh, with some bite to the tannin and fruit just below the surface. A nice mouth-watering finish. This needs food or a couple of years in the cellar.

A nicely forward nose with both width and depth. Full of flavour and just a little brioche depth. Stylish and tasty – a super bourgogne.

Made for the first time in 2003, this is a selection of the best purchased grapes which for the first time in 2005 will be sold outside of France. It’s a wide, soft and ripe nose. Equally soft on the palate but combining nice width and well balanced acidity. The finish has nice length with just a trace of young-oak bitterness, but this looks like it will be a super little wine. Approximately 1,000 cases made.

A mix of parcels from the Côte de Challonaise and Meursault. Wide, soft but relatively precise nose with an impression of pear. The palate is slightly plump – for me I’d prefer a dash more acidity – and exotic. This has a good length and is sweet and tasty.

2003 Bouchard Père et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir La Vignée

Nice deep colour – already quite ruby-red at the core – looks good the glass. The aromatics are relatively muted, a little earth and faint underbrush, only occasional glimpses of nice red fruit.
The palate is soft with good apparent concentration, enough acidity and tannins that only show themselves with a little grain as you move into the finish. At its price-point this is a very successful wine, I was only missing a little ‘character’.

Pale lemon-yellow. The nose is subdued and faintly sweet and citrussy. The palate is fresh and clean, with good acidity. There is not so much to this wine in terms of depth of flavour or intensity, but neither is there much to criticise given the price-point. Almost good, ‘for what it is’.

Medium-plus cherry-red. Obviously about 03 on the nose, with deep liqueur cherry. Nice mouthfeel – plenty of velvety tannin, long finishing for a bourgogne with a fruit-colour that just hints toward black – high-toned mid-palate, reasonable freshness too. Recommended.
