Chablis Vaucoupin

Very nice aromas with hints of the sea. More lithe and fleet of foot vs. the 07 Vaillons. Lovely finishing acidity and flavour – an excellent finish!

Aromas of riper (lemon) fruit. After the 09 very narrow and mineral yet the texture is cushioned and the flavours penetrating. Slowly intensifying acidity – very good finish too.

A hint of perfume. The flavours are more chalky and less precise. The mid-palate flavour is again just a little evolved. Very long finishing, but I’d say drink-up!

More focused fruit of some depth on the nose. In the mouth it’s faintly riper than the Vaillons and again shows the lovely acidity. Super length and minerality again.

Faint brioche fades to leave denser fruit. More intense at its core and coupled to fizzing acidity, lovely extension and finish. A little more mineral and super.

This right-bank cuvée has a lovely, more mineral nose with accents of citrus fruit. The palate seems similarly concentrated to the Vaillons but everything is delivered in a much more mineral fashion. Philippe quotes “as Vaillons starts to die Vaucoupins starts to wake”. This is my style of Chablis, it is mineral, it is understatedly intense and has lovely acidity breaking across the palate into the finish. Excellent!

Pale to medium yellow. The nose is not so ‘solid’ as the Vaillons, still tight but more open and higher toned. A wide palate with lovely acidity – it seems much more mineral and precise than the Vaillons which is the more opulent. Very different presentation, I personally prefer this style.

Lemon yellow in colour. This wine shows a nice depth of fruit on the nose. The palate is more reserved, but also smoother and more elegant than the ’98 Fevre ‘Le Clos’, doesn’t show the same level of concentration though. Nice acidity, pretty and satisfying.
