2007 Bize Simon Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Vergelesses

Pretty red aromas. Like the 2009 the flavours are very mineral, tannin starts as merely a background impression, though comes to the fore in the mid-palate, it seems only as part of a general crescendo of flavour leaching from every nook and cranny of your mouth. Excellent!

The grand Deep and interesting fruit aromas – it’s lovely dark-red shaded fruit. In the mouth there is velvet tannin that you can almost chew and a very good balance.

Deeper and darker, just a little tighter too. More mineral, more direct and more linear – also more intense. This is a wine of considerable power. Very, very good, but drink the Bourgeots in preference today.

(Magnum) Medium-plus colour. The nose is understated – actually quite tight. The palate is equally tight, the only forward aspect is the grainy astringency of the tannin, the fruit gives little away, though it’s ripe enough and shows no roast characteristics. In this format I wouldn’t be rushing to drink bottles, but I wouldn’t be searching them out either.

Medium colour with some amber at the rim. Oaky, chocolaty, completely secondary nose – very nice. The palate is lovely, still wrapped in tannin with good acidity and sweet fruit. No hard edges, this was lovely.

Deeper colour, now cherry red. A reticent but pure cherry nose. Palate is much more obviously fruity than the village wines. Good acidity and tannins. Good wine.

Medium ruby red. Nose is high toned. Very furry tannins and good acidity. Perhaps the fruit is struggling with the structure. The finish is persistent – so there’s still hope.

More ruby than cherry colour. Reticent nose again. Very good acidity and tannin which dominate the wine somewhat. Nice fruit though so still good.
