I’m thankful to Laurent Gotti for the alert about this:
After “Climats et lieux-dits des grands vignobles de Bourgogne“, Marie-Hélène Landrieu-Lussigny and Sylvain Pitiot’s reference work dedicated to the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits (Editions de Monza – Editions du Meurger 2012), the pair continue their exploration of the Burgundy terroirs by publishing “La Côte Chalonnaise – Atlas et Histoire des Noms de Climats et de Lieux” (also Editions de Monza – Editions du Meurger). I like to call this ‘The Third Côte‘ – the Côte de Dijon having been long-time lost to us…
Mercurey, Givry, Montagny, Rully, Bouzeron are covered by their associated maps and the names of their 561 Climats.
Now, cleverly, bi-lingual, so no need for two editions. I know that I will use it a little less than their first ‘atlas’ but it remains a ‘must have!‘
There are 4 responses to “for your (late) christmas stockings!”
This is my Christmas present to myself. I often tell clients that some names go back to before the french revolution so we don’t always know what they mean. I have never seen a decent reference book on the subject so I should go and check it out at the Atheneum!
Me too 🙂
Oh blimey, another €75 required presumably just after I’ve bought the English edition of the Cote D’Or book 🙁 ? But, thankful for small mercies the latest is bilingual 😉
Then you will have to avoid buying from Aethenium – the linked pdf says onöy €49 🙂
Phew then, but I did say “presumably” 😉 without checking the link 😉
I was not aware of the Cote d’Or book until your post. I’ve ordered a copy from Amazon for US$144. I hope it provides as much pleasure as the three bottles of Burgundy I could have bought for that price. I buy very few wines from the Cote Chalonnaise, so I’ll skip that one.
I hope you still get value, but it certainly pains me to see a €25 book, out of print, selling for such a sum. The black covered books were for the US market (in theory changing litres to gallons et-cetera) and the white covers for Europe – I have a black covered Japanese book too.
