images from the beaujolais this week

Update 22.5.2016(20.5.2016)billn

Not super-warm despite many of the pics, yet it was a fresh and bright week in Beaujolais. There were a couple of evening storms with strong wind, rain and a little thunder and lightening, but no damage – more storms are forecast for Sunday onward, though. If the growth of the vines had been a little bit more forward – saw another 10 days worth – and not yet trained, then the wind would have done quite some damage by breaking off many shoots – but it wasn’t much of a problem this week.

Here, some images captured during my week:

Glad to see you made it to Chateau de La Terriere (bottom picture), I love their Brouilly Vieilles Vignes Cuvee Jules du Souzy. Did you make it to Chateau de La Chaize? The Reserve de La Marquise is very good.

      Chaize – I don’t think I did, Jerome, but I’ve a list of about 40 domaines, which isn’t a bad start 😉

Chateau de La Chaize is a large (over 100h) and wonderful estate, very historic, as it was built by Mansard with gardens by Lenotre just before Versailles. Originally built by the Pere La Chaize’s brother, it is still owned by his descendants, the Roussy de Sales family, where over the past 50 years, women have been in charge. The current Marquise, Caroline, is whip-smart and very dynamic. Worth looking up for a future visit.

I am off to Italy on Saturday, two weeks with my entire family (15 of us across 4 generations) courtesy of my mom (who at 84 loves to travel). I will be back to Burgundy in the fall, either for harvest or the Hospices. See you then!
