One West Coast Merchant, where I frequently buy, has posted pre-arrival prices on two different negotiants 2009 wines (Red & White). Both are older large companys. One with a consistent track record over the past 30 years, the other recently on a real sutge in quaity over the previous decade. Does the vintage demand one’s immediate attention?

With occasional peaks that better 05, is see 09 as generally less consistent. I’d place the average quality between that of 05 and 06 with some wines less good than 06 – that’s reds, I haven’t made my mind up on whites yet, certainly I don’t think it will be better than 07/08

    Thanks Bill

Maybe the significantly lower prices on the reds (5-12%) and early release are due to the European economic situation. Since this merchant has an import license and experience in monetary markets, he could be speculating.

Guess, I’ll buy some Cortons and one or two Beaunes. Everything else will probably be drunk by my heirs.
