choose between vines or a glass of something vine-derived…

Update 27.1.2010(25.1.2010)billn

Back from a long weekend – more of that later – and two new things in my inbox that you may be interested in:

  1. Adopt a vine in Santenay? I don’t know the people, but it may be of interest to some…
  2. Salon des Vignerons de Nuits Saint Georges et Premeaux Prissey: if you can’t wait so long to get your hands on a glass and will be in the Côte d’Or at the end of March, maybe this will fit the bill…

    Bill,

Have you come across Domaine Chapelle previously ?

Confess a ‘new’ name to me and can’t see it quickly in Coates. Brief look at the website shows 20 hectares and some interesting terroirs ?

Be interested in any sage comment .

    TIA

Mark de Pernand [thinking more Morey this year – ask me sometime about recently being out on the town in London until after 4 a.m. with Cyprien Arlaud. He’s a mean mover on a dance floor 😉 I’m getting too old for that sort of thing ! ]

Sage – your kidding me! I’ve also not heard of the domaine.

At your own risk: So tell me about going dancing with Cyprien until 4am…

This Chapelle goes by the slightly better known name of Domaine des Hautes Cornieres and gets a few lines in Coates first book.
I visited them back in 06 and they do have a very good AOC lineup my fav of the day however was a village Santenay and the reason for my visit, an Aloxe Corton 1er Les Petits Lolieres for whom I Know of no other producer hence the visit. Splendid tasting room upstairs I must say.

    cheers

    Phil,

Many thanks for this. Interesting few lines in Coates Vol 1.

This is all getting very anorakish between you, me and Bill if you don’t mind the light hearted comment !

Recall you like your unusual terroirs from a post on wine-pages.com vin exchange. But where on earth pray is Aloxe Corton 1er Les Petits Lolieres ? Can’t for life of me see that on the map resource ? A lieux dit in another 1er cru I guess but which one ? Ahh, hold on !! Just found it in Coates Vol 2, Ladoix map 22. Well, one learns something about Burgundy everyday !There are any number of ‘odd’ cru’s there I’ve not noticed before. That said I’ve been thinking for a while Ladoix might be a ‘fertile’ under the radar hunting ground for ok QPR wines.

Must try and get down to Santenay when next on the Cote.

    Thanks again.

thanks for the comments and yes over the years the old train spotting coat has come out the closet, but thats what happens when you spend your money chasing the odd 1er’s around, some of which I have been unable to find in bottle!
Ladoix and Aloxe for my money are vastly underated but then I could go on about Savigny and Santenay indeed all of the lesser villages produce very reliable 1er for about the same as a village Gevrey !

    cheers
    Phil
