Another Lignier, this time more differentiated by it’s label. I also see there’s a new website from this team.
2005 Lucie et Auguste Lignier, Morey St.Denis
Deep cherry-red colour, almost a little purple. Wide aromatics with slight white-pepper spice over a deeper but reticent black cherry. Excellent intensity of black cherry fruit, super acidity to balance and tannin that is submerged in the extract. It’s a powerful combination for a villages wine, a little mineral too but it’s also very linear and obviously closing-in on itself – faint black chocolate shows on the finish. Super villages but be prepared to wait.
Rebuy – Yes

This became available at one of the local markets. I remember Hubert’s going out of grasp, so I thought I’d give this one a try and I was pleased. I got the cherry and stone tastes and really like the mouthfeel and weight. My guess is that it’s folding in on itself, so I stashed one for some future time when I won’t be able to afford any of these wonders.
Thanks Bill,
Nice note, and although this is a little off topic….love the label!
Cheers,
Kent

Don’t worry about ‘Hubert getting out of reach’. If you find 2004-2006 bottles from LA-Lignier, then you can be assured they are pretty much the same – the barrels were all bottled at the same time and split in-line with the metayage agreement – so they are essentially the same. Only from 2007 were the grapes split – that’s where the wines start to differ
Kent – There’s certainly nothing else like it!
Cheers, Bill
