Hi Charles - Clos des Epenaux is a wine for long aging - I would say there's an absolute minimum of 10 years to wait for that one. For a mature one, I tend to like things like rabbit or hare...
Cheers, Bill

Bill: I have a bottle of 1999 Comte Armand, Pommard, Clos Des Epeneaux, 1 er Cru
Do you think this wine is at it's peak now or will continue to evolve and improve, or hold for a while before it begins to decline? Also, what would you pair it with?

Hi Gerry,
Personal favourites would be rabbit or venison, however, if you're talking classic, something like a roast 'Bressé' chicken would be top of the bill...
Hmm. My mouth's watering just thinking about it ;-)
Post your note when you make it!
Cheers, Bill

What would be a "classic" food pairing with a 1990 Comte Armand Clos des Epeneaux? I'm saving a bottle for a special occasion.

Cheers,

John - how long is a piece of string? - or more rather, what style do you like? Looking purely at the land, the is the imprssive linearity and delivery of Clos des Epeneaux; there is impressively complex but slightly rustic Chevret; brooding, complex and often muscular Rugiens; Taillepieds that can be a bridge between the latter two etc., etc.

And that's before you look at producers, but here I would say you can't go wrong with de Montille or Joseph Voillot.
Cheers, Bill

As I understand that every Pommard is inevitably endowed with unique characteristics that set it apart from other wines of the same, but if you had to choose overall which producer of Pommard wine is generally considered the #1 producer?

If you have the opportunity, try the 1998 En Truffiere, Pommard 1er Cru, Les Grand Epenots. We enjoyed several bottles last evening over light appetizers and French cheeses and found it to be perfectly balanced. Elegant as a ballet dancer, it danced over our tongues. I shall proactively seek out more, I believe I have found my new mistress of the grape.

Make sure you have enough, I noted everyone kept sliding the bottle towards themselves and one group actually secured a bottle and squirreled themselves away in the kitchen to hoard the love.

With kind regards,
